Picked up the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener recently, and I have to say that I really like it.

I have cheap water stones, and I don't know if it's because they are cheap or, more likely, because I don't have a good technique down yet, but I've had difficulty with them (and they are very time consuming).

I also have the DMT Course/Fine Diafold, and that is a great little tool for the pack.

Why is the Work Sharp better than these other options? Well, you get 5 stages of sharpening (2 diamond plates, 2 ceramic rods, and a strop impregnated with sharpening compound), plus it has a slot for fish hooks and a small ceramic rod for serrated edges. The angles guides are fixed at 20 degrees, which is an angle that works well for most applications, and these features together bring the knife from dull to pretty damn sharp in about 5 minutes (assuming your edge is not in dismal condition).

For $30, it's not the cheapest date in town, but you can replace the diamond plates, clean the ceramic rods, and re-dress the strop with compound. All of this comes in a small form factor and I'd much rather have this in the bag then a variety of stones that take longer to use.

At any rate, this product has my vote. Anyone else have experience with this one?

I like mine as well. Not being an expert at sharpening free handed it makes things easier when I am not near my Wicked Edge
