Work Sharp Issue...?

Hi all. I received a Work Sharp for Christmas and had very high hopes for it considering I suck at sharpening. I was able to put a razor edge on my Tops BOB which is 3/16" thick, but can't get my Izula 2 (5/32") or pocket knives to even cut paper. The right side of the belt seems to have much more give to it than the left, and as a result the left side of my knives are sharpened higher up the blade than the right. I noticed that when using the right side of the machine (sharpening left side of blade), the blade will completely slip down the belt inside the guard once I get toward the tip. Basically my question is, do you guys notice a difference when using the left and right side of the machine? Is this just an issue with my technique or is this model defective?

It sounds to me like it might be your technique.

I got a Ken Onion edition for Christmas myself. I too noticed that the right side of the belt (the side with the tensioner) has more slack in it, for lack of a better term.

I have been using mine quite a bit the last few days. I've found that if you use the same amount of pressure and keeping the blade at the same distance from the top on both sides produces an even bevel on both sides. Don't let the blade move down the belt. Keep it at the same place and lift the end of the knife to match the curve as you near the tip.

Are you saying that the bevels you are getting are different on each side? More (higher) on one side than the other?

How fast are you running the belt?

On mine I run the belt on almost the slowest speed and use two hands to hold the knife.

I actually took mine back to Cabellas and exchanged it for another model; fixed the problem. Thanks for the advice though
