It’s my first sharpener of this type. I have sharp maker, which I still use.

I like it because it’s simple to use, but since I’m not experienced in sharpening, so I’m probably the wrong person to ask for feedback.

The case looks great for "full" storage, but would also be nice if there was a way to store the rod vertically in the base when not in use, so you could leave it set up in a more compact footprint, without having to break it down completely.

I agree. I got one and keep it set up with the rod in my knife toolbox.
