A lot of us like shiny polished bevels. I know there are many ways to get there, but my Work Sharp has made me happy in this regard.

A few days ago I bought a very nice Case full size trapper from excellent forum member Whitedog. It had a good working edge, but I like to set a new bevel on most of my knives. This afternoon I set to it with my WS Ken Onion Edition. I used the stock 4 belts + 2 others, in the following progression: x65 (stock), WS P400, x22 (stock), Micro-Mesh 360MX, x4 (stock), and WS 6000 (stock). For the purpose of this small demonstration, I stopped on the 6000 and did not use any special finishing belt: leather, linen, or worn belt with compound or polish applied. A dedicated finishing belt in the 12" size is not widely available yet, so I wanted to show what the results look like on a quick sharpening job with a fairly simple grit progression which includes only two additional and available belts.

Also worth noting is that only 3 of the 6 belts I used are the regulation KO size: 3/4" x 12". The WS P400, the MM 360MX, and the WS 6000 are all in the original WS model size, namely 1/2" x 12". So, if you're wondering about using some of your original model belts to fill in gaps in your KO grit progression, I'd say they'll work fine.

I wouldn't consider the finished edges on my trapper "mirror", but they may qualify as "semi-mirror". I imagine with a finishing belt I can improve them, but I'll save that for later.

Finally, I will say that I'm really enjoying my KO Edition. The new features, especially the variable speed, really help you avoid---or at least minimize---mistakes. But as far as getting shiny bevels, the original Work Sharp did a good job as well, as can be seen in the last photo---a little GEC #25 which received a WS bevel "makeover".

Thanks. On this go-round, I'd say around 50% or maybe a bit less.

Looks very good Andrew. From time to time I see knives I have sold/traded on this forum posted in pictures. They all look so good after I have sent them to new homes.

Thanks, Jerry. I love the burnt bone covers on this one (hardly visible in these blade shots), and a nice job was done putting the satin finish on the blades as well.
