I did a search for the Work Sharp and only found a thread on the Ken Onion. Everyone seems to really like the Ken Onion, but I have the opportunity to get the standard Work Sharp for Christmas and thought I would ask you all if you have an opinion on it. I can't afford the Onion and won't have a shot after Christmas for a long time.
Does anyone have the standard? What is the difference in the Onion.

Main difference is the Ken onion addition came with a few upgrades. Adjustable guides, wider belts, variable speed, and optional add on accessories.

I have the original Work Sharp. It's ok, but the belts are really small & narrow and wear out fast. If I had it to do over again knowing what I know now, I'd probably get a 1x30 belt sander. Harbor Freight has one that's like $50.

The standard works fine....but be aware it is the gateway drug to the KO. Maybe get the standard and don't open it.....then return it and trade up to the KO? JK.....better to have the regular one than none at all.

thank you for the response guys. I think I am going to go ahead on one of these and give it a go.

I like this work sharp blade sharpening attachment thing

Isnt this different than the KO set up you refer to where you stick the blade in a grove thingy and pull it
There's 2 main work sharp units, the original and the newer Ken onion edition. The blade grinder seen in your video is an additional accessory option for the Ken onion version. You must first buy the Ken onion work sharp in order to use the blade grinding attachment.

They also make a tool grinding attachment that I don't have for grinding lawn mower blades and such.
