I was wondering which one was better for mainly knives from kitchen to folders as well as hunting knives? how good is the edge it puts on blades? and finally if its worth getting a ken onion edition over the original? thanks!:D

I have the original and have had great results with it on certain knives and other tools that a portable belt grinder was a Godsend. However if I were to buy again and had the choice I would definitely go for the Ken Onion model as it has some great refinements, and abilities that the original did not have. However my main sharpening system is the paper wheels, but I still use the Work Sharp when the work calls for major re profiling, and then follow up with the wheels.

Blessings,

Omar

I've got a Ken Onion WS and it's quite good. I waited for a sale and got it for less than the standard one! One thing I've noticed is that on some, not all knives the guide leaves light scratches on the side of the blade. I will be putting a piece of tape on my blades to prevent this from now on.

Great advice about the tape...can you put a mirror edge on, and would you recommend this for your high end folders

Mirror edge no problem at all. I would practice before moving to a high end folder but no reason not to. It's a very quick method, supposedly not as precise as some of the rod kits but my edges have all come out great. I've sharpened scrap metal knives I've hand made from letter opener/butter knife dull to mirror edge shave sharp!

you can get a mirror finish with this  defiantly going to have to get, is this with the belts it comes with or different ones? Also how long do the belts tend to last?

Mirror finish with the included belts. I bought an extra set not expecting them to last very long seeing as how small they are. I've sharpened 6 of my kitchen knives of varying sizes, 7 folders, and 4 home made knives,(2 of these from blunt to mirror shave sharp, and one of them twice now) so 18 sharpening jobs so far on the first set of belts and if I had to guess I'd say I've got about 6 left on them. I'll probably use the new set on my good knives now and the old set on my projects,(just started my first folder).
