I bought a worksharp sharpener a while back because it was after it was recommended to me and after looking at the videos i was bought! It was recommended by hunting folks as well as Lansky which looks like my next buy.

Anyways i was wondering what you guys think about it and if the lansky system would be an improvement to the work sharp.

I also acquired/bought 3 khukuri knives, originals from KH, i have a 12" which is used as a wood cutting machete for camping and hunting so the very convex edge is definitely a plus because it will not be bent easy, is definitely far from cutting paper as well as the other 2 which are a 6-7" traditional style and a khukuri 4" with a dear antler as a handle.

These 2 have a very convex and not ao sharp edge and would like to make them razor sharp or as close as possible, would the work sharp work or should i wait to get the lansky?

Which WorkSharp did you get? I dont own a Lansky system but to my understanding its very difficult to use on anything over 6 inches.

I have great results with the work sharp, even on large blades. First practice a little bit on an inexpensive knife. Mark the edge with a black marker so you can see your progress. When you reach the apex and create a small burr, go to the next belt and finish with the 4000. You will be shaving and slicing paper in no time.
One more thing; be careful not to round the tips, pull the blade off just before you reach the center of the belt and you should be OK.

I will, got plenty of really bad knives, those kitchen packages you can buy. At least i'll become an expert have crappy and very sharp knives lol

I have a worksharp and I am a fan. I sharpen my BK9 on it frequently, so big knives are a go.
It is portable and you can use it for loads of other things besides knives. Just yesterday I was cutting a railing for my parent's deck and used the worksharp to smooth out the edges, worked great.
Get one, even if you don't sharpen knives with it, you will use it.

check out dmt its like the lansky but will not scratch or gal your blade i have use booth on blade up to 8" just be careful dmt is easier to set up in to me good luck have a good night

Got one.
Still learning the "in's and out's".
Still at the office.
Practicing on everyone else’s pocket knife:)
I am amazing all who hand over a pocket knife. They think I am a sharpening God :)
(Do have one person in the office that has a paper wheel and can put a hair popping edge on a knife in a minute or two BUT his bench grinder set-up is not as handy and portable as the WSKS)
It will work well with the 3 belts that are shipped.
To see what it can reeeeeealy do, get some extra intermediate grit belts from Micro Mesh.
WS also sells some additional belts.
Watch the tip as said above.
It has done well for me and I have gotten my knifes (and others) sharper than I would have been able to do otherwise in the time it takes.
Now with that being said there still is a place for Lansky, DMT, traditional stones, etc.

WOOT.COM had a deal on 5 different assisted opening Kershaw knifes ($13.00 ea.). Asset, Compound, Tremor, Drone and Burst Serrated. I could not pass it up. The first 3 arrived today and would guess that the other 2 will show up tomorrow. Inexpensive, made in China, but not cheap. They look nice and have good steel. They are the sharpest knifes I have purchased. Will shave hair on your arm. Will see if I can improve on that with the WSKS. May have to bring the WSKS home from the office for this mission

work sharp should work fine. seriously, getting a kukri's edge to shave free standing hair really doesnt take that much time or effort. Just a few mins. quick laps on a belt sander and finishing up on the paper wheels (2 or 3 passes) and you'll have a nice edge you can be scared of.

shaving your arm hair is nothing, try your facial hair. when you can get your edge shave a peice of free standing hair without any effort, your beginning to get sharp. after you have the peice of hair fall away from the edge after it just touchs it, your there.

My goal:)
Not there yet, but working toward it:)
The WSKS has me closer than I have ever been before.

how close are you? take a look at http://www.coticule.be/hanging-hair-test.html

if you can get it to HHT-2 or 3, a cheap way to get it to HHT-4 to 5 by stropping on some newsprint with heavy ink coverage like on a full page photo (black and white, color doesnt work as good). You can also buy some 1micron to 0.25 micron but its more expensive (newsprint being free). It's suprisingly easy and fast. saw murry do this on youtube and doubted it for along time but tried it and was amazed at the results.

dont get a lansky. i got one and it was nearly impossible to sharpen my kabar as the blade would slip in the clamp, and when you put the blade in you have to make sure its the same distance in or the angle will be off and youll ruin the edge
