Got a workbench or a sharpening station? Let's see your setup! Forgive me if this has been done before, but I couldn't find anything recent. All tinkerers, grease monkeys, blade smiths, and sharpeners are welcome. I'll start with my modest workspace. I transformed the closet in my man cave into a knife sharpening and maintenance station. The bench is overbuilt. From my father I learned to use more screws than necessary. This thing is also bolted into the door frame. A special thanks to a few blue Post It notes helping to keep my sticker collection family friendly.

As you can see, I'm a fixed angle sharpener. Hats off to freehanders, but I will never have what it takes to join your ranks! Front and center is the wicked edge.

In the left corner, I've got a Tormek T8. The 4000 grit Japanese water stone is hanging on the peg above, along with the rock hard felt wheel for serrated knives. On the shelf rests my KME along with oils, lubricants, thread lockers, cleaners and anti-corrosives. A little canned air doesn't hurt either.

The right corner is home to my dedicated knife sharpening and tinkering tool box. It also houses a Spyderco Sharpmaker, assorted ceramic tools and strops. When I need more space, the Wicked Edge can stand on top of the tool box. This allows me to bring the Tormek to the center of the bench.

In front, I've mounted a 12" x 2" leather strop loaded with one micron diamond emulsion. This is where most edge maintenance takes place. Handy place for paper towels, too.

The bench is at the ideal height for standing behind the Wicked Edge. I can also sit on a stool. However, the bench is too high for using the Tormek, so I built this platform that lives under the bench until called upon. When I stand on it, there is about one inch of clearance between the top of my head and the bottom of the door frame. Perfect fit!

Thanks for looking!

I just started moving my sharpening station inside now that I've reclaimed a spare bedroom, it's a work in progress, but I think it'll work out great.
I'm a stay at home dad so working inside, rather than in the garage, should give me a chance to get more done without having to leave the kids and dog alone in the house.
Some of stones that aren't on the drying rack are stored on the wire rack to the right, along with some other gear.

The opposite side of the room has another desk that my printer and vinyl plotter sit on and can be used for sewing or anything else.

Thanks for looking!

Looking good, my man! I have an electronics/watchmaking bench, a firearms bench, a leather bench, and tomorrow I'll put together another bench for anything I need it for at the moment. I use a table for sharpening with my Wicked Edge 130 and for many hand tools.

I'd love to see some photos!

Tomorrow night or Friday morning I'll post some. The place is a mess right now - getting ready to start building my bench tomorrow.

Well, it looked like it would rain today so I put it off. But it won't be too long before I get it done.
