working a bloom of steel

at the local hammer in we made a small bloom of steel here are some pics of me working it under my 150 ton press

so what was your ore, how much of it and how much charcoal?

How does that bloom spark??
 
Karl we fired this thing for almost 6 hours if i were going to demo this at the Ohio Classic Knife Show i wouldn't be able to sell any knives but maybe its something we could do at one of the hammer ins in Troy


the ore is metallurgical iron its 68 % iron and the remainder is oxygen

we were adding about 1.5 pounds of ore to a 3 gal bucket of charcoal every 7 min give or take...when the time increased it was time to tap a hole for slag

it really had a good shower of sparks

as i work the bar ill put up more pics to this thread...
