I am looking for an above average fixed blade (2"-3" blade) for EDC, something that I'll have few if any qualms about using, yet still be proud to own. I remember seeing one such a maker on this forum but I can't remember who it is. His knives were very practical, traditional fixed blade designs, he offered several options for scales and blade configurations. As I recall, most of his knives were in the $125-150 range, and all who spoke of his work spoke very highly. Any thoughts?

Nope.

He has/had a Website with great photos of knives that are/were currently available, or you could order to your specs--usually a matter of a few weeks, as I recall.

Thanks for the help,

Bob

I definitely agree with notos&w in saying Charles May. He is in this price range and uses nice materials, does super work. I have a couple from him and am very pleased.

Thank you, gentlemen. It was Gene Ingram that I was thinking of. However, those Charles May knives look mighty good.

Thing is, my EDC rotation is a small Sebbie, a black micarta Kopa, and a Benchmite. The Sebenza gets carried far more than it actually gets used (I had to save for too long to risk messing it up--duh!); the Kopa is a great little knife, albeit a little heavy (titanium's light weight jades a guy in no time at all); the Benchmite--a Pre-Production model--gets used daily and goes through the washing machine at least once a week (the downside of carrying a knife that literally disappears in the watch/change pocket of my jeans/khakis).

All my EDCs are folders. Seems I am forever grumbling about having to one-hand this or that while I use the other hand to flick a knife open (with varrying degrees of success--buh-leeeeeeeeeve me; it ain't no more safe than it is purdy to watch!). A nice little "one-of" fixed blade is just what I need.

Again, thanks for the help! :)

imho its hard to beat bud nealy for edc fixed blades, his MASS sheath system rocks too, not so crazy about the MCS though,

I'd go with either Charles May or Scott "Razorback" (he posts here and at KF). Scott's knives are real workers and he'll discuss all the details with you so you get exactly what you want.

Before you buy anything, check out Bark River Knife and Tool. They have some small fixed blades that carry perfectly in the pocket. Their quality is outstanding and their guarantee is one of the best I have ever heard of. The only thing they won't be responsible for is badger damage. As long as you don't lend your knife to a badger or get into a fight with one, you are in good shape.

I carry the Micro-Canadian and the OMF in my backpocket on a daily basis. A.G. Russel has a neat back pocket sheath that fits the Bark River knives perfectly. For that matter, A.G. Russel also sells a very nice and inexpensive knife that fits their backpocket sheath (Woodswalker I think).

Dozier Knives. "Pay a little more and get the best." I have the new Drop Point Hunter and the Agent, both in S30V although I hear his D2 steel is the best on the planet.

I like Dozier's New York Special. 3 3/8 inch D2 blade and Micarta handle. I'll be ordering Dozier's Agent next week....another handy design.
