Bought a few sets of pearl at the Blade show yesterday. Now......if pinning to liners or tang...should hole in pearl be a bit larger than the hole in tang or scale for enlargement of pins when peining? If...say...the pearl and liner is 1/8" total thickness.. how long should the pin be before peining? What is best method for sanding and polishing? Thanks for any help before I screw the whole mess up!

I recommend using torx screws for assembly (and disassembly).Pinning MOP can be hazardous to your mental health.Sand and shape with slow, sharp belts - avoiding all heat,or hand sand (go to 600 or so).Filing/shaping/carving can be done by hand easily.Saw with a #1 or 2 jewelers saw blade.Polish with a clean 3" buff or by hand (again, avoid heat).Almost any good white or pink polish works fine. The dust from the MOP is somewhat toxic,so wear good protection, and blow off your clothing after sanding (outside of course)

Pearl is very difficult to peen pins into unless you really really know what you are doing. I recommend you get some scrap to test/ practice.
