Hey guys,
I am a designer for a US based clothing manufacturer and was hoping to get some input on a tactical jacket design I am working on. This jacket will include a modular outer shell with a few removalable vest options.
Would anyone be willing to give some feedback and input on the design of the jacket?
What pockets/features would you find most useful to accommodate a tactical and outdoors lifestyle?
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

I'm interested in purpose driven designed clothing. I have some gripes about some of my coats and some specific ideas as well.

Pockets on the chest or high and tight to the core are nice for carrying stuff while working and not getting in the way. Vented and gusseted pits are a must and I also would like to have the "at rest" position of the sleeves be elevated for more comfort when prone.

Long tail is also a nice feature.

Pocket on the inside of the jacket, one deep without a zipper for knives and such, another with a zipper, possibly more shallow.

Sleeves that don't ride up when I lift my arms,
lots of room under the pits,
big front pockets angled and placed for warming hands.

Vented pits.

Adjustable closures at wrists (Loose/open and tight/closed).

Flapped slant chest pockets with buttons or snaps vs zippers or Velcro. Ensure the pockets aren't so high as to make them difficult to access and are of large enough volume to be useful.

True hand warmer pockets on lower front.

Left, right, or both horizontal pocket(s) at lower hem on back against kidney.

Reinforced elbows.

Jacket length --- hem should be below pants front pocket opening or at lest down to sleeve cuff/wrist of man when standing.

Roomy pits and shoulders to allow reaching, stretching, bending without jacket constricting body or exposing body.

Material that is quite abrasion resistant, and that'll survive sparks from fires.

Seriously, since you state "tactical jacket" look at some of the European military field jackets from the '70s to '80s, particularly the Belgian and Dutch. They mostly nailed it.

Depends on the application: if meant as a fall/winter jacket, I like cargo pockets with handwarmer slots behind them--increases carry capacity and keeps hands warm without snagging on gear. However, this design tends to look out of place if meant as a 3 or 4 season jacket. The other posters nailed it except for this, IMO.

All suggestions given have been great but I would add the suggestion for a zipper that you can unzip from the bottom to allow the coat to be more comfortable when sitting.

A little extra room in the shoulders and elbows so when I'm holding my pistol in the ready position the jacket isn't binding.
unzipping it from the bottom and top.
It should be tough hardy material but not binding. You've got to be able to move in the Jacket
If it's a jacket maybe some warmth or water resistance.
I like it to come down further than the belt --- a few inches further.
The other suggestions are also good.
One last thing--when your done with it let's see the finished product. Oh and how about making it affordable.

This is extremely important or potential customers will just go with what they have or what has already proven itself. Expensive "tactical jackets" can be found everywhere and quite easily.
