I started this project about a week or so ago. Im getting closer to being finished, I just have to finish shaping the scales, marrying them to the handle, and finishing with a higher grit. Its at like 60 right now. Im thinking ill finish at 400.

Im really please with how its looking. I did some of Mark's Curly Koa with a canvas micarta liner, orange g10 pin stripe, and a natrual cotton micarta bolster.

Getting everything to fit properly was a logistical nightmare. I have so much respect for guys like Andy Roy that make such beautiful and perfect handles. Its been a major learning experience and alot of fun!

Anyways I should finish up tomorrow so Ill post some pics when Im done. I have 3 more sets of really nice Koa so I think Im going to rehandle one of the RMD LE's when Im done with this one.

Heres a pic with some water on the handle so you can see kind of how it will look when finished. Mark's Koa is ridiculously gorgeous.

It looks like you've changed the shape of the grip some too, or is that just the new material deceiving me?

I'm going for a fatter overall grip with a middle palm swell. I always felt like the standard scales on the RMD were a little small.

And I spend like 200 on supplies for this project. I'm going to try to sell the next one I rehandle and recoup some funds.

I mainly used a dremmel, drill press, belt sander, and sandpaper.

Does this mean you have a set of black paper grips laying around in need of a home.....:D

Hunter,
That look's great. You are doing a very nice job on the handle's. I have used Linseed Oil on wood and it look's very good. What are you going to finish it with?

Here's an update. I thought I would finish today but it looks like I won't get done until tomorrow. I have most of the shaping done but I need to thin out the back end and fix some nicks.

It looks really good in person and Im pleased with how its progressing. Im not sure how Im going to finish the wood yet.
