Time for a W.I.P.!

I had an idea for a slicy/pointy fighter utility the other night and did my best to draw it up... I only have about 10 minutes into the CAD but wanted to get the general idea down, as you can see it needs refinement.

I used the mill to cut a slot. This part took a while! This is a piece of 1.5" tall .315" thick A2 tool steel. The slot got cleaned up with a file and sand paper.

Profiled, cleaned up, holes drilled, chamfered and everything is squared up on the horizontal grinder.

Time to grind some scales! I'm working on the bottom two...'

Tubes ground over 40, 80, 100 and scotchbrite belts... they need to e smooth on the end for flaring. Then they were flared... Scales ground on the perimeter and cleaned up... time to do further clean up work on the horizontal grinder.

I just used a 1" wide 220 belt to chamfer every corner on the knife. After that I went to the buffer and "melted" down everything in contact with the hand. I do this on pretty much all of my knives at some stage.

Checking the choil for comfort - it feels great! It is mirror polished in that area at this point.

:D Thanks Rolf!

Profiled... that's grey (looks kind of green) burlap handle material with a green glow!

The black lines are wax from the buffer... time for more finishing work!

Nice Daniel! When did you get that Beaumont horizontal? And mill? And then you just have random damascus and folders laying around?!!? You've gone big time!

Love this design. Well done Daniel!

Much appreciated!

Thanks! I got the mill, grinder and did a few other major shop improvements early this year... it's going to be a big year!

That's a big piece of damascus right! And yes that is the DFK Framelock! .180" Ti Frames and a .207" CPM D2 blade.

Can't wait to see how these turn out(I like seeing your shop/progress shots)

Thanks! I'll post the finished pics here in a second!

great work Daniel I love the new Grindr

Thanks! I am enjoying the grinder, I need a vfd now on my regular KMG! lol

This one is about 11.38 long with a 6" blade including the choil.
