I work a lot with g10 and I do it in a well ventilated area with a respirator. My question is I know the dust is harmful but the fumes seem to bypass the respirator and I can smell it. Is smelling it through a new, good respirator really dangerous? I also put a bandana over the mask and eye protection. I don't wear gloves but it doesn't bother my skin. Anyone know if I'm doing ok?

I think you need a special type of respirator to work with that, and other stuff like epoxy and micarta.
As far as I know there are respirators suitable for particles, and ones suitable for gases, but I haven't seen any that are suitable for grinding epoxy yet. I asked a guy in the hardware store and he recommended some specialist protective equipment place so I'll look there next.
I don't know, maybe your respirator is not rated to handle that stuff

no, thats not good if you can smell it, it means you are breathing it in.

Get a better respirator, maybe grind it outside.

G10 is pretty and durable but bad for your lungs.

I would think that you would need a respirator cartridge rated for organic vapors. Particulate filters are a physical filter. The organic ( and some of the other types) have chemicals/compounds in them that absorb the fumes.

Here's a link to a site that has information on selecting a respirator. There's a lot of info. http://www.ehso.com/RespProtectionSelection.htm

You should be using a dual cartridge half-mask like this one - it'll block particulates and vapors ..
