I have some Richlite from Masecraft. I was wondering if others are using it and what their process is with it. I have a brown and blue to try also.

This work in progress is Maple Valley color. It was shaped up to 200grit on the belt and then hand finished up to 2000g followed by 3000g pad. I used windex liberally to keep the copper pin dust from staining. Interestingly, the color of the slurry was purple.

As usual, it never looks like the advertisement. I am wondering if I ground too deep and got below the darker color section.

I am not sure if there is a way to control the pattern of the color. One side looks almost like a bolster with a straight line transition to where the color splotches start.

It does feel grippy and I can see why they are used in kitchen knives. Being paper based, what have others used with Paper micarta. I saw one guy who finished black paper micarta with scotchbright and it looked good with consistent satin finish.

What is the appeal of this stuff over paper micarta? Just the wider range of colors?

I liked the colors. My understanding is that the richlite is made from paper pulp vs sheets of paper.

I was interested in the grippiness too.

I need to retry linen micarta for comparison.
