Getting ready to try my hand at using a big round piece of stag for a bowie handle soon. The stag is very nice looking on the outside, but is pretty pithy inside for probably half the diameter. I know that you are supposed to clean out the soft stuff, but what do you fill it with? Here's what I plan to do. Please correct me if there's a better way. I am going to clean out the soft stuff as best as I can(leaving a big hollow area). Then, I guess I will fill the inside with JB Weld and let completely cure. Then, drill a hole just big enough to fit the tang inside. Am I off the mark on this? Help!

Say it ain't so -- you're finally going to put a handle on one of the numerous blades you've ground? :D

If you're going to do that, you might as well fit your tang in too. No need to drill more holes.

One thing you can do is put a piece of tape on one end to seal it, put the other end up and fill with super glue. Gib

I core out all the pith with a drill bit and a wire wheel, then fill the hollow with 2 ton epoxy during assembly.
