Working with Titanium

What is the best tool for working titanium? And while we're on the subject, which tap & die set is best for titanium? I am wanting to get started doing a little customizing on my folders, and I have the feeling a standard Dremel and tap & die set won't be enough. Any suggestions?

I haven't had a problem with doing mods in Ti using a Dremel and a standard hand tap. Drill Ti at a low speed with a drill press, don't use the Dremel to drill it. While Ti is soft it will tear up a drill bit at Hi speed. The normal stone bits that come with a Dremel work well at shaping Ti liners. When you tap the hole you've drilled, make sure the tap is square and use lube. You'll want to make sure you back the tap out occasionally to clear out the debris. Doing mods to knives can be very rewarding, educational and fun.

do you set a Dremel if you just want to use felt wheels and Jeweler's rouge to buff up the finish???....Thanks.......wolf;)

I have found that it is best to use high RPM when using stones or buffs with Ti. It's when you use metal to work Ti that slower is better.

Dirk, I love your signature line :D
Its true, somehow I did end up with your collection. I am having fun with these knives :)
