I got an incredible deal on one of these today. It seems to me that it is easy to use and easy to get a knife really sharp. Anyone have likes or even dislikes? Anything I need to know before I use it??

yeah is the deal public and where can i get it :) also its pretty great

Diamond dust will get on the guides and scratch up your blade. You can tape them if that sort of thing bothers you.
Also, the upgrade kit is worth getting.

I’ve used that setup since September if last year. I’ve learned many things in this time frame. The first is this. You do not need the upgrade kit to get an extremely sharp, toothy edge. I always thought it was worthless without the upgrade kit, but then I realized I just wasn’t creating and removing a burr. However, the kit does help a lot. My sharpening setup now includes the guided sharpener with the upgrade kit and a dmt eef 3x8 diamond plate. I also have the wicked edge strops that I have put on balsa wood. I can get some extremely sharp and polished edges with this setup. It is extremely affordable also. However, if I could change one thing, I would’ve got the spyderco uf stone instead of the dmt. Also, I never knew what was wrong with the sharpener and I was scared to sharpen expensive knives because they always would get scratched near the choil. Then I figured out that you would only need to tape the angle guides after each grit and then it is flawless. Be careful if you use water on the metal plates because it can get on the other metal parts in the base and rust. So dry it out completely and you will be fine. I hope this helps and have fun with your new system!

Thanks for the tips. I sharpened my daughters Buck Lite. It was as easy as I expected. Finished up on my Sharpmaker. Wow! I never expected that I could get a knife that sharp! It will take some more practice before my expensive blades touch these stones though. I tend to over think things and I don’t want scratches all over my Field Marshal!!

I agree. Spend some time on your cheaper blades before you start putting killer edges on those expensive ones!

Because your blade grind angle is added to the WS's guide angle, your final edge will be greater than 25°. The exact angle imparted on your blade edge will vary from knife to knife as their blade grind angles vary.

I have one too. They're great....but these days I trust my sharpmaker to give me a better edge, 10x faster unless I need to reprofile.

Hey Monofletch Monofletch , how are you liking the worksharp after a few more months? I'm looking at getting a guided system better than my lansky crocksticks and this seems like a fair setup.

bikerector bikerector it is fantastic! Paired with the Sharpmaker I don’t need anything else. I haven’t purchased the “advanced” kit yet but I will soon. I don’t think I need it but I want it.
The pivoting action makes an even bevel along the entire edge. No adjusting with your angles.

I just got one tonight. I have multiple systems and am always looking for the one. The sharpmaker is pretty close, if fact it is what I have been using more than the edge pro. I think this system has a lot going for it from my limited time using it (one knife). I did get the upgraded kit. Wonder if they will come out with other grit plates.

I put diamond polishing films on the back of some of my plates. Looking for a mirrored edge. It works ok but it takes a lot of time. I feel like the Sharpmaker is perfectly capable, and quick to use. I only use the worksharp now, to reprofile.
