You might consider trying it with the pivot unlocked on the sharpener, it’s designed to follow the curve of the belly to tip area. (Will work either way).

Yep. That's what I like best about mine. I always had trouble with bellies when freehanding and that Pivot Response System actually works as advertised. It's nice not to have that problem anymore.

I got one of these about a month ago. The pivot response is great. So easy to use.
I recommend the upgrade kit, as well. You get extra coarse, extra fine plates, and a strop.
Ive been getting great edges with this system.

just remember to tape up the blades as the diamonds embed on the guides and will scratch up the blade.
