Ok. Now that this new K.O has been out for a while. Which belts are you useing up first? What grit should they come out with next? :D

I've had my KO edition worksharp for about 3 months now. The belt I found myself using the most was/is the finest grit at +/- 6000 grit. right behind the x-22 belt which I think ( the white one ) is around 800 grit +/-, the factory versions of the 6000 grit belts are only 1/2" wide, I bought quite a few from Econoway: http://www.econaway.com/ and they are good quality, shipped quick etc. The finest grit belts are also the only ones that worksharp/Darex recommends for serrated blades--so one way or the other you're gonna need some more of these.
I find myself using the unit more freehanded, it's easier to get to all of your blade with the guard off, and I have been really pleased with the results, I can get to an edge that shaves pretty quickly, and the stropping on the leather belt on the belt sander, it gets REALLY sharp quickly.

Best Luck

I just recieved my KO Work Sharp and love it! Put a super sharp mirror edge on my Flash II which I usually EDC everyday.

I guess my reply didn't really answer the question lol I have just been using what the users guide has been saying, they call the finest one the X65 and then the next the X22 and then the X4. I find myself personally using the X22 the most.

Econaway looks like my best option for replacement belts. As far as I could tell the finest they sell is 2,000 grit. Do you order the 12" length?
I'd appreciate any info you can provide as far as length, grit, material etc...
Thanks,
Todd

The good folks at Darex, makers of the Work Sharp, have indicated that they'll have an even wider variety of belts for the KO available soon on their website. Not sure exactly when they'll be available, but if you call or e-mail them they'll likely tell you.

I've sharpened about 60 knives in the last 30 days. I've used all the belts regularly, except the P120. I use an abrasive cleaning stick on each belt often... in other words, I don't allow the belts to load up and stay that way between sharpenings. I've got an extra set of new belts and comparing those to the ones in use, I've seen very little wear. So I highly recommend cleaning the belts after each use... doesn't take but 3-4 seconds. You can get a cleaning stick for $9 or $10 that will last a very long time (at my present rate, I'd say a couple of years easily).

Curious about the cleaning stick. I have sharpened quite a few knives since I got mine, but nowhere near what you have. I have noticed that the performance of the belts went downhill. I recently bought a new set, but at $14 a set it would be nice to know how to make them last longer!

Google: abrasive cleaning stick

You will find many to choose from, all are about the same and will do the job.

Yeah, the $7 "sanding belt cleaner" from Harbor Freight works just fine. I've barely used any of it, and it's probably 9 or 10" long. If I only use it on the WSKO, it should last for many many years. ...and yes, it cleans the belts really well, especially the low grit ones like the P120. Takes it from gray streaked, back to almost new looking. On the finer white belts, it doesn't clean as thoroughly (visually), but I also haven't noticed the performance of those belts changing at all.

For what it's worth I ordered from Econoway, and I ordered on the phone, so I talked to someone, and I did order .75" x 12" belts. As an aside, I have ordered a big group of belts from Microsurface: https://micro-surface.com/index.php and they have recently added the .75" x 12" belts to their repertoire. They're selection is extensive, I'm looking forward to getting these belts in.
