Worksharp precision stone replacement?

I have a Worksharp precision sharpener, (the first model NOT the new pro model) and I was wondering if there are any cheaper after market replacement stones available? The add on kit of extra stones from Worksharp is $80 and I wanted to check if there were any cheaper options.

Also wondering how long the stones should last? Mine are several years old and have seen a good amount of use and seem to take much longer to sharpen then they used to.

Your stones are probably glazed. Try washing them with rubbing alcohol and a stiff brush. If that doesn't improve them you will need to dress them to expose fresh grit. Dressing is usually done on either a flat glass with some grinding compound, or on a diamond plate.

Gritomatic list two different adapters for your machine. One made by Hapstone, that accepts 4 inch stones. ( KME form-factor) And another by Leading Edge that accepts any of the 6 inch stones. ( Edge Pro form-factor) Unfortunately the 6 inch is currently out of stock. I would wait for the 6 inch to come back into stock, because there are many more stone options in that size.

O.B.

Worksharp comes with diamond plates and a single ceramic finishing plate. Given their small size they tend to wear quickly. Dressing them won't work unfortunately.
