For those of you who haven't purchased your copy of Dr David Darom's "The World of Art Knives", it's a must buy. If they are selling at the ABS show, you really must get your copy!

That being said, here is some eye candy some of you may enjoy. I don't recall having shown this knife for a very long time, and certainly not this image, for which I thank David Darom immensely.

From the dust jacket/back flap of "The World of Art Knives" (and with David's permission), a nice fancy fighter/sheath by Curt Erickson. Note that it's regarded as a "fancy fighter", rather than an art knife.

Best,

Bob Betzner

It is most definately fancy! Wish the pic was larger so I could see the detailed engraving on the sheath and guard. Curt or should I say Mr. Erickson, builds some very impressive knives.

Hello Bob!

I chose to display this beauty on the back flap of the book
because it had so much going on that really pleased my
personal aesthetic taste...

When I first saw the knife I was immediately drawn to what I consider
its perfect design proportions. Combining this with the amazing handle
material and the as near as can be perfect engraving coverage by Julie,
made me REALLY WANT to have it in my book.

After all it IS my book.... :)

The only spot available was the rear flap and so, with Bob's help
off it went to Eric just in time to make it.

Thanks once again Bob!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Mike, here is another image, by Coop, taken when I took delivery of the fighter. The image I posted, to start out the thread, is the only one I have from the book itself and is a bit smallish, since it's much closer to lifesize in the book.

Perhaps this one will help you to make out the engraving on guard and sheath better, since it's much larger. In comparing the two images, the main difference seems to be lighting - and of course the size of the images as presented here. If you were holding the book, looking at image, you would see every detail - and be able to notice that the gold inlay is raised up, resulting in it's prominence in the images. The image by Coop, below, shows this prominence of the gold beautifully.

Best,

Bob Betzner
