Does anyone know the approx. value of the spyderco world trade center knife that was featured in E.D.M. today magazine. Sorry about the emotion raised by this question. I do have one of these however if I sold my entire collection 200+ this knife I would keep.My son asked me and I didn't recall even the exact selling price at the time and in responce to Sal I'm sad they didn't sell due to the charity involved. The only exposure I saw at the time was one add and the artical in E.D.M. today( I work in an E.D.M. shop) I repeat I do not wish to sell and accually wish I had bought more.

Its a lot. But I think for the people that lost someone in that horrific attack, the knife would be worth a lot more.

I didn't lose anyone, but what that knife stands for, makes that knife priceless to me. If I could get my hands on one, you can bet I would keep it till the day I die.

God Bless America.

I believe they had trouble selling them out. So it is probably worth the manufacturer's listed price or less.

You can see them on the auction site time from time

Wrong. I've seen them go for $300-plus on that auction site.

Old articles say the price was 225, however I've seen it at about $300 in high level brick and mortar stores. Only seen one in the last year so they are pretty rare.

Hi Wolfman,

The WTC project stopped some time ago. We cut parts for 2800+ pieces (the number of lost souls).

As Brownshoe mentioned, we only were able to sell about 1700. Quite a disappointment.

I too, have not seen many for sale and the ones that I have seen for sale were higher than the original $225 per unit. I would guess that their value will increase with time. Most owners choose to keep them.

that is a real disappointment great knife, produced by a great company for a very good cause, and a little more than half of them actually sold, the rest I believe were destroyed, ironically I was not able to afford one at the time//willing to fork out the money.

Can you say if the remaining unsold ones were destroyed? I bought 4 in the last month they were sold. Wish I could have afforded more.
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

Most were destroyed. I have some of the parts in my office. I really don't want to throw away the skylines. We can't sell them at this point. It's too late for the New York charity. I thought about encasing them in plastic, doing something for the military?

Damn... i'd realy like to get my hands on one of those knives ( or the handle Mr. Glesser ;) )

I've been collecting 9/11 items from day 1, but never even seen the knife. It's verry hard to come by 9/11 stuff here. all has to come from E-bay iff they are willing to ship here at all.

Damn, i wish i lived there with you.

Great looking knife, and hope a can find a good specimen one day...

Sounds like a nice way to use the skylines. Maybe you could put them in the boxes of the Tan Natives that still go overseas to those that are still fighting.

This was a special model for the Widows & Orphans fund for the Firefighters, Policemen and Port Authority pesonnel lost on 9/11.

All were sold at full boat. I wanted to make sure that the collectability was not compromised. During mfr, all parts were counted at each station. When we stopped the program, all of the parts were either destroyed or carted into my office.

The Skyline in the handle was made from the beams given to us from WTC Bldg #1. Forged flat and EDM'd into skylines.

Wish you didn't tell me that...Damn...Now i really wan't one

But there should be other charities around still active for 9/11? Perhaps donating to them and completing the 2800 piece run?

Ahh, well great knife to look at, and hope i can get my hands on 1 at sometime, althought that might be hard with only 1700 sold worldwide :grumpy:

Sal,
just my 2p:
I discovered the WTC knife on this forum (and spiderco's) quite recently.
I think the knife looks great and would like one. But if one becomes available on the Bay, profits will go to the individual and as a mark of respect I won't get one.
If you completed the run, you could make sure profits would go where they're needed

Good point indeed.

I think the knife might have been made to soon after the tragedy. Iff you would offer it again i'dd defenatly commit myself to buying one, and as Saint-Just said, then you decide were the money goes.

Perhaps its worth thinking about for the future Sal. Hope something comes up in the future and don't let this knife die after only 1700 specimens, it deserves better...

I'm certainly very happy with mine, it's a centerpiece of my collection and IMHO an extremely fitting tribute to that horrible event.

I'm planning to carry my WTC knife on duty this coming anniversary. I have done so since acquiring the knife, and hope to continue the tradition.
