Here's an update on the World War Three.

First, I have received about 20 envelopes - thanks! If you haven't sent it in yet, please do so soon, as I had to order Micarta based upon a guess of what handles people would like. Of course, your knife won't be made without your input, and the "extra" micarta is returnable.

Second, Robert (the handle-maker) sent me a report from the front lines (his shop) on the progress. Right now, he has 20 of the knives, and the other 20 are on the way to him. Basically, he's been experimenting with one of the models to determine the best handle design. By the time he receives the box of Micarta that I ordered, he'll be ready to go into production. He's also handling the finishing of the steel - a friend of his does steel finishing for a living, and has agreed to do the job in exchange for a new bluing tank.

EdgeWorks is standing by to do the sheaths. My only hope is that the knives are ready for Christmas.

Semper Fi!

Thanks for the update, Craig. It sounds like the WWIII project is proceeding nicely. Just out of curiosity…will those of us who ordered this khukuri receive any sort of confirmation of the receipt of our deposits?

Anxiously awaiting the WWIII…

Jim

Just thought I'd voice my concern also about your receiving the deposits. If it's not too much trouble, maybe you could post the names, or even just the knife-list numbers, of those people whose deposits you've received.

And, again, thanks for all the effort you've put into this project.

Here's the list of deposits I received so far (the numbers below don't necessarily match your serial number):

1. Berkeley
3. Blackdog
4. C. Cleve
5. M. Travis
6. Marcus
7. J. Mahler
8. Ugly Jim
11. B. Boyd
13. Joseph J. Mead
14. Ryk Sheppard
15. B. White
25. P1445
28. Knnut007
29. Steven F
31. Richard D. Byrd
35. Jim (Knifetho)

Most of the "depositees" are forumites - the others are mostly non-forumites, and so communications time is a bit slower.

This doesn't count today's mail, which I haven't received yet. I've been keeping good records, so if you sent the check in and you're not on the list above, chances are something happened to the envelope.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the deposit confirmation, Craig. I know I feel better knowing that all of my paperwork is in place. Like everyone else, I’m very appreciative of all your efforts to bring the WWIII project together…I’m sure you never thought developing a khukuri-by-committee would be so much fun

!

I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving!

Jim

Craig,

Was just able to get to the post office today. The deposits for both blades were mailed at lunch. Have a safe holiday.

Cheers,

ts

BMWGS80: Thank God, I did have a safe holiday (though I did have a close call). Ugly Jim: Thanks for mailing! I'll do an update next week on the deposit situation.

And don't ever worry about the slings and arrows of creating the khukuri by committee. It's something I have enjoyed. I won't make much money off the project, but that's not why I did the project in the first place. Yes, I hope to get some good press from the completed knife, but most of all, I wanted to make it my way of thanking the forumites for believing in GH during it's development.
