World's smallest chakma. Pix compliments of Sarge.

Thanks Uncle Bill,
Hope folks get a kick out of my "mini rig". The chakma is made from the tang scrap of a good Swedish high carbon steel puukko blade. I fully hardened it and left it at full hardness, a bit on the brittle side but it'll burnish some pretty hard blades. The handle is black cow horn, carved and highly polished. I made up a new frog incorporating the scabbard for the chakma, which wound up in front instead of back, so the rig will still lie flat against my body.
Now I've got a true mini-khuk with it's own chakma (a mini karda was kind of a moot point). Just the thing for prowling the "urban jungle".

Good stuff! I've considered making a few extra tools for inclusion in my khuk scabbards as well, so I can have the full "swiss army" feel of say, the Berk special!

Re: How did you shape the blade?
First I annealed it by heating it cherry red and letting it cool slowly in a pile of wood ashes. The now soft metal is a cinch to shape with a file. Once I had it shaped and polished, I reheated it bright red and quenched it in tepid water. Polished it up again and heated the tip of the tang slowly, watching for the color change until a blue temper line had crept up the tang just short of the fully hardened blade portion, then quench before the heat can travel any further.
It's a dandy little tool, it's small size obviously requires a fellow to be careful, but it works good on any knife I've tried.
