Actually, I've got 2 1/2:

#'s 1 + 1 1/2) What happens to the SN1's issued to the Gurkhas when they're done with them? Would there be a way for GH to get some for resale?

#2 1/2) See the thread "Mini-jungle...my constant companion."

I'm crazy about this topic!
Lt. Dan, I hope you get an answer soon...
I would like to enter the competition for world's stupidest khukuri questions! Here is mine:
How does one actually pronounce the word "khukuri"? Is it: KHOOKOORI (with the accent on the last "OO"? Or is it KHOOKRI? The other day I told a lady friend I had purchased a khukuri knife. So she asked why I, a guy, would be interested in a cookery knife!!!
I do feel we must latch on to the Nepalese way of pronouncing the word. What can the guys tell us who have visited the place?

Johan,

Such a worthy question qualifies! I sure hope the guys who can enlighten us show up....I'd rather not resort to pooling our ignorance and voting.

Lt. Dan

I agree the guys in the khukuri collecting fraternity must now show their worth on this question of pronounciation. Reminds me of the guy who was doing his post graduate studies on a scientific topic. He bragged to the two moderators that they could give him an oral anytime on a certain highfallutin' textbook he had been studying. So when the guy appeared before the two professors they simply asked him: Who wrote the book?

He couldn't answer.

Prouncing khukuri is sort of like spelling Kahdaffi! However, in Nepal, they say "Kookuri" (or Coo-kuee, with the accent on the first syllable). Say it real fast.

Lalit says that when he left the Gurkhas, he had to turn in his khukuri. I'll have to ask him what the British Army does with them then.

Craig,

What a neat thing it would be to buy a decommissioned Gurkha SN1! So, by all means, do ask Lalit. While I'm very partial to my new SN1, it would be a real treat to have such a piece of history. They might not meet your criteria in the "different" dep't, but the novelty sure could make them appealing. Who knows what the Brits would have to say about it.

Now for the question(s): What are the prices of the Gurkha books on the GH webpage? Are they paperback or hardcover?

'Tis almost the season, y'know....Dan
