Worn out knives

I'm moving in a month and I did a quick inventory of my knives. I have about a dozen khukuris, a dozen folders, and half a dozen various fixed blades. Looking at them I realized that with the exception of the folders I really don't get to use my knives all that often. I could give away most of my knives and keep a single folder, fixed blade, and khukuri and I would be well equipped for the rest of my life, barring loss of course. With all the knowledge I've gained on these forums I could make those knives last.

I've never worn out a knife. I like my knives sharp and maintain them on a strop, so there is no noticeable wear on my knives. Nevertheless I still like the look of a well-used and cared for knife. There is something beautiful and honest about a patinaed blade with a gleaming edge. Do any of you guys have knives that fit this description? Please post pics, i'm sure I'm not the only one who likes good, hard-working tools.

I'll have to post pics later, but a kind-hearted forumite gifted me an old, old, old thin bladed carbon steel belt knife. Beyond being crafted by Geneva Forge, I couldn't tell you what this knife once was. A thin-bladed tradesman knife? A kitchen knife? It doesn't even have a profile that belongs to any type of knife that I know of. It has been ground, and bent, and broken, and filed and honed. All that is left is its honesty and the scars of a thousand adventures. I love it to pieces. I'm in the process of making a new sheath for it. I'm going on a camping trip that will require some canoe travel. That means I generally take nothing that is near and dear to my heart, as the rivers seem to like to swallow my things. The grand khuks stay at home and a cheap Fisker's axe comes in their stead. Who cares if i lose a $14 hatchet? A SAK is strapped to the belt as it will be used for many number of tasks and is nearly freshwater proof. The custom SARGE/KPH knife stays safely tucked away at home for EDC when i come home. HOWEVER, the old "worn out" knife will be on my side. Something tells me that it has seen a hell of a lot more in its time than I could throw at it. It seems to have a lucky personality.
I'll try to get some pics posted this evening if i can figure out how to work the cam.

Jake, I'd love that knife you're talking about ... but man, I'd bring both a Sarge/KPH and a Khuk on a canoe camping trip for sure. I'd be conscious that rapids might swallow them up ... but that kind of trip is what they were made for. I'd be inclined to work out a way to secure them ... sheath, lanyard, I dunno. But take your real tools ... and bring back pictures.

My $0.02.

Yep these knives are the best. They just keep on working too.

Thanks, Tom:)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bringing A khuk;) The trusty 18" WWII is going to be packed and lashed to the side of the back pack. However, it probably won't be deployed during the canoe aspect of the trip. As a matter of fact, most of the tools will stay at camp while wife, dog, and I go for a few hours of paddling about. Nothing really rustic or hardcore going on. I'll take the SAK and the old knife. SAK for its tweezers. Old worn out knife for the charm, good will, and luck that it brings.
