Worst Injury from your knife?

With all the knife weilding folks on here there's gotta be the makings of the "scar" scene from Jaws.

I've got no knife wounds other then from when a doctor used a scalpel to take out my appendix

just made a small cut on my left thumb 2 days ago. Sebenza did it. was so thin and deep I almost didnt know, except for the blood. Am not even sure how I did it.

I get one about every few years or so. nothing much worse ever.

My worst self-inflicted knife wound was when I was young and really, really stupid. I used to carry a little Cold Steel knife on my keychain and decided it would be a good idea to use it to cut off a broken string from my guitar. I stuck the blade under the string and pulled it hard towards myself. It cut the string all right, and then came straight up and stabbed me right in the head, in the temple, less than an inch from my eye. I let go of the knife in suprise, and the knife stuck there. It didn't really hurt, I just sort of sat there, reflecting on my monumental stupidity. When I pulled it out, boy did it spurt. For a long time. I have a nice scar there still today.

This became something of a famous incident amongst my friends (I was at a party and really, really drunk when it happened) I still take crap for it now, something like 15 years later.

LOL..the image of a drunk guy holding a guitar and a knife sticking out of his temple is pretty funny. Pretty lucky your eye was spared. I've done some dumb things(broken ankle from jumping off a deck that was higher then i thought) when drunk but have been fortunate to never be holding a knife at the time.

I, too, was drunk.
Nothing like a knife sticking out of my head but I was marveling at the weight and balance of a Japanese gyuto knife and wielding it around listening to the "swoosh" sound that it made when I felt a slight twinge in my thumb.
I had been holding the handle too loosely and the knife had swung back in my palm, allowing my thumb to sneak infront of the very bottom of the edge.
On swinging it forward again I sliced clean through my thumb along the side of the nail.
It bled.
Guess the moral is to grip your knife firmly if you've been drinking?

Stabbed myself in the leg a good few years ago with an original spyderco jess horn model. Flipping the knife out while I was walking, thought it was fully openned, but it was at a 90. My arm was hanging down and I stepped right into it. Thy wound. Went in 2.5 to 3 inches, so said the doc. Worst part was when they had to "explore the wound". Then about a year ago I was drinking and spinning a spec plus combat knife in my fingers. Not real sure where I went wrong, but I cut my index finger to the bone right were the palm meets the bottom of the finger. Had a minor surgury and to this day it still hurts and is still numb. Then about 2 weeks ago I nailed myself pretty good with a desert dagger. Left ring finger. It's healling nicely, but half of my finger in numb and I'm only working with about a 90% range of motion. I am optimistic for a full recovery though. I cut myself about once every 2-3 weeks in one way or another. It's generally from my 42 and pretty minor. Luckily.
Now that I think about it, when I was in middle school I was playing "knife fight" with my buddy. -Kitchen knives. We hit knives and his slid down my blade and cut my right ring finger from my big nuckle to my finger nail. Got 19 stitches from that. I think it's always better to get cut on the top parts of your body. Seems to be less stuff of importance there (like nerves and tendons, ect.). It's also not a real good idea to play with knives when you're drunk.

Oh yeah, the worst. I would have to say the worst one so far was the combat knife. I say that because it required a surgery and cost me the most money. They all hurt equally though.

Siggy, have you considered taking up stamp collecting? I hear it's a pretty safe hobby!:D

When I was around 10, I was using a SAK to take the cover off a golf ball (why? I don't know! I was 10!) Ended up sticking the blade deep into the web between my left forefinger and thumb. I still remember looking into the hollow gap, and seeing the blood come oozing up!

Last summer, I was hiking with a Benchmade Rukus in my hip pocket. When I went to reach for it after hiking a couple miles, I discovered that the blade had partially opened up, and was quite sharp. It went about an inch and a half into the web between my right forefinger and thumb.

Must be starting my second childhood!:grumpy:

SOG Navy Seal 2000. My arm slips over guard directly on serrated part of the edge. Fortunatelt it did not take all my pointing finger off, but I had lot of blood and 7 stitches. After this I consyder Navy Seal 2000 as a very dangerous knife.

Guards just does not guard my arm...

Thanks, Vassili.

Dropped my old ka-bar on my foot....13 stitches, and I was lucky I somehow missed the tendons.

ok ill play
a few years ago i was using one of those cheapo colt double bladed bowie to enlarge a piece of pvc pipe to fit over the barrel of my rifle (dont ask). well i guess i applied a bit to much force cause the pipe broke and i removed the entire wrinkley part of the second jont of my left index finger. talk about bleeding! i walked to the house drove to the er and shelled out 400 bucks to get stiched up.(this was before i became a medic)

I got a bad cut on my right index finger while trying to close a Micro-Tech Kestrel. The knife was new at the time and I was on my way from the office to my car when it happened. Fortunately, I was headed to my doctor's office anyway, for a physical, so they were able to close my wound and bandage me up. There was blood all over my shirt, slacks and shoes. I shudder to think about it.

Mine was not the result of inexperience, but rather reflexes. :D I had just taken a sheathed Rapala fillet knife out of the closet. For some reason, gravity overcame the natual tendency of Rapalas to stay in their sheaths (HA!) and the knife started heading out of the sheath and towards my bare feet. Well, reflexive action took over. No, I didn't jump like Michael Jordan, but my hand made this sudden and unexpected grab for the handle only to grab (quite tightly I might add) a sliding blade. Ouch!!! Deep cuts on 3 fingers, all requiring stitches. Oh well, at least I kept them all so I could do this again sometime later in life. :o

i accidentally stabbed my best friend through the palm of his hand with one of my KA-BAR's about a year ago. my apartment walls looked like a scene form a bloody "B" movie with a chainsaw. poured blood all over a fresh little caesars pizza too. the good part is that no tendens were severed and he completely regained full use of his hand. lesson learned... knife play is bad

My god! What in the hell are you people doing? It's a knife, it is the simplest tool ever invented. How on earth are you people harming yourselves to this degree?
The worst I have experienced is I have nicked myself sharpening a knife.

I am ashamed to admit it, but my worst knife injury so far came from a Stanley 10-049 pocket knife. You know, one of the folding things with a replaceable blade. I was whittling and slipped, catching my left hand just below the base of the little finger. Missed all the tendons and nerve chains, but cut a small vein. Took eight stitches to get the one inch long cut to stop bleeding.

Second place was a few months ago, I caught the side of the pad on my right little finger with my old AUS 8 Delica. That one probably should have been stitched, but I was on the other end of town from the hospital, so I just wrapped it tight (Duct tape is our friend :D )

Cut though a small rolled up wash cloth resting on my leg and took 4 stitches in my quad.
Doing my knife practice (study my own style of Philippino and Pikal mix) with a live blade instead of a trainer. Cut the end of my little finger halfway off on the "live" hand. Just cleaned it and held it in place with criss-cross bandaids. Healed OK but tip of finger is numb because I cut a nerve.

But these are all minor. Ask me about my motocross and enduro racing days and my climbing accident and we'll have something to talk about.

When I was a kid my father and I were playing with swords. Long story short he accidentally cut accross on my shoulder. Luckily the sword wasn't very sharp, but it did leave a scar for a number of years. Now I don't think I can see it anymore.

I've got another knife scar from a kitchen knife accident on my hand between my thumb and index. Light scar though, no big deal. The funny thing though is that my father incidentally also has a light scar the same size and everything in exactly the same part of his hand, from a slipped nail. Looks exactly like mine, even going in the same angle. We joke that we must be from the same obscure sect or something.

I've got various other scars from knives and other causes. I've never gotten stitches for a home injury, I don't bother.

Worst knife incident was back in college during finals week. It was late at night and I was starving, so I reached into the freezer and grabbed out our frozen hamburger patties. Since I only needed one, I had to cut them appart. So of course I needed a knife to make this happen. Out came the large 10" kitchen knife, positioned it in between two rock hard mounds of meat. I drove the knife down and as luck would have it the knife slipped. My left hand was in the way and it cut clear through to the bone on the meaty part of my hand. Big fun let me tell you...

Folded a knife on my finger a few weeks ago....went about 60% of the way through the knuckle...still pretty darn stiff, but healing. Gonna hurt until I die probably.

Earlier in my career when I was an integrated circuit designer, I was scrambling to get some testing done before a big checkpoint meeting. 2 a.m., totally exhausted, I was making some modifications to an printed circuit board with an exacto knife. Not paying attention, bad knife form, in a hurry -- I empaled my palm with the blade.

Nice trip to the emergency room followed . . . and it was really crowded with other patients in the ER at 3 a.m. Wild night in Boise.

The ante is upped considerably if we'd were reading the complimentary thead to this one in a power tool forum. Maybe I'll do some surfing for it. After breakfast . . .
