Was the prediction of ALL weather forecasters for California yesterday, including San Diego (where we live). We got sprinkles on and off. Maybe these weatherman should run for congress or something. You can flip coin and come up with more accurate forecasts.

Hahahaha. Meteorologists being right? Stand a better chance of politicians telling the truth

I live in San Diego, too. We got about as much rain as the forecast on wundergroundDOTcom said we would. But they specialize in localized forecasts.
Recommended.

My wife's family lives in Northern California. They report getting blasted with beaucoup rain and wind.

Apropos of nothing, I grew up reading Heinlein. Probably had more to do with forming my personality than my parents or school. For better or worse.

Us, Danke. Outsiders looking in.

I've been unaffected where I live in East Contra Costa county (no flooding or blackouts) but the effects of the storm elsewhere in NorCal -- espeically in Santa Cruz, Sonoma, Mendocino & Sacramento counties -- are pretty horrendous.

People downed and completely blocked Hwy99 when levees broke south of Sac near Wilton. I go to a resort there in summer and the resort has reported a voluntary evacuation for the week. The storm also devastated the town of Capitola just south of Santa Cruz.

Can't count the # of road closures due to flooding/sink holes/fallen trees and power outages due to fallen trees and other things and there are more problems still to come.

Hwy 1 south of Carmel and north of SLO at Big Sur is also blocked which is not uncommon but still a PITA. Hwy 1 from Daly City to Half Moon Bay was also blocked at Devil's Slide, also a common problem point but roads inland which normally do not have such problems, like the road from Felton to Santa Cruz and from Sonoma to Petaluma are also reportedly blocked. Hwy 13 that runs thru the hills of Oakland was entirely blocked due to a fallen trees this morning and, even a few back roads near my place towards Clayton/Walnut Creek are blocked.

So, it's really pretty bad up here.

Here in Santa Barbara hip-deep water downtown, Montecito (think Harry & Megan, Oprah, etc) has been under manditory evacuation for two days.

Our house is fine, but several of our neighbors are sandbagging to keep dry.

In the 2 decades I've lived on the Central Coast, I've seen the Big Sur and Carmel Rivers and overall water higher than this maybe twice before. We got pounded. Water's squirting out of everywhere. The new typical 3 months of drought in the rainy season sure was getting old, but now I'm ready to dry out for a couple weeks.

You can see where the water had been up higher in the lawn a few days prior.

You can see the sediment being coughed up from the various flooded streams that empty into the ocean. Even the whole span of the bottom of the mountain is just leaking.
