So I purchased my first strider about a week ago. Loved the look and feel of it blade was off center and the lock stick was terrible but figured I can read up and fix both.I started with the lock stick first. Well let me tell you my thumbs were to the point of bleeding after day 3. I read forum after forum of people giving ideas that would help and that it only takes 400 openings and should loosen up..I went well beyond that number. I finally found a method that was easy on the thumbs. I took a wooden clothes pin and used that to open the lock bar. I did this for hours at work and when I got home. Let me tell you well worth the work!! I love this knife i can't keep my hands off of it and it is buttery smooth.Strider is now one of my favorites I will def be buying another. but for those of you who get discouraged let me tell you it is well worth the work!!

Lock stick would be a function of two things: a) lock bar pressure, and b) friction between the lock bar and blade.

If the lock bar pressure was excessive, the fix would be to remove LBS (lock bar stabilizer), and very incrementally bend the lock bar outward. You'll want to be very careful with this because if you mess up and go too far, you'll need to completely disassemble the knife to bend the lock bar back the other way. There can be a noticeable difference between the lock bar tension of a SMF and a SnG; and you can typically get the longer lever lock bar down to a lower lock bar tension and still maintain solid lock up.

For the friction problem, #2 pencil lead works great. Sometimes you get too much on there, and you have to wipe away the excess.

There is a third component to the equation, and that is how deep the lock up is; which is a function of the relationship between the lock face and the stop pin diameter. The deeper the lock, the stiffer overall the lock bar will need to be.

Don't bend the lock bar. Just be patient. Down the road it will start to rock. I've seen and fixed too many. Just use it and be patient.

This ^ I'm not going to tell you I've never bent a lockbar, I will tell you I've never got one perfect the first bend . Leave it alone if it gets too hard on your thumbs use your index finger with blade edge facing down you get more force that way anyway.

Pencil marker all that makes it easier on you but it's going to make break in longer as well you need tI on steel contact and it will wear faster .

I've also heard 200-500 openings and your broken in . Not so much . Some use is the best thing for it . If you want to sit and finger bang your new strider till your fingers bleed that's on you your money your knife . Just realize that your wearing your lock that way . I like lock stick but YMMV it just let's me know the lock is that much more secure.
