Wortac!

Just got a Pat Crawford Wortac. This is the only knife in the past 3 weeks that has caused me to put down my MADD MAXX! The overall look is awesome but when you hold it it is functional. Your hand seems to fit that handle like a glove. The swelled pistol grip rear end just fills up your hand, at least mine, giving you better control. Blade shape is good with enough recurve to give a deep belly and an ideal "sweet spot" about 3/4's of the way up the blade. Knife came razor sharp. The liner lock is recessed so that you won't be in danger of accidently closing it. Several things I've noticed about Pats knives, and I have several, is the heavy duty way he builds them. Hardened stainless stop pin, oversized hardened pivot, and hardened steel spacer that comes 2/3's of the way up the handle. There has been some comment on Pat's locks not holding like they should. I have had 8 of his knives go thru my hands in the past few months and EVERYONE of them locked up tight with NO play and passed spine whack testing. I would say this is proof for me! The Wortac has milled grooves at the top rear of the handle and at the top front that really aid in gripping, but the thing that really aids the grip is the shape of the handle with the deep cutout for your forefinger. Need to mention that Pat always mounts his clips high on the folder to give you deep carry ability.

I am really pleased with the Wortac and can see alternating it with my MADD MAXX as an edc. Also ordered a Timberline version to compare the two. How about it, anyone else out there have a Wortac, if so, what is your opinion?

Beautiful knife! What materials are used? I fell in love with the Wortac when I saw this version...

I had talked to Wes before x-mas about ordering it, but something came up and I ended up picking up the Al Mar version.
They did a terrific job. Fit and finish are excellent and it locks up rock solid (unlike other Al Mar auto's, sorry).

I still hope to get the version above, later on this year. Jeweled titanium, fileworked and damascus blade.........sweeeeeeeettt!!!!!

I recently picked up a Wortac as well, and am equally fond of it. It's got solid micarta scales, and needed some linerlock adjustment off the bat since it had opening/closing-directional blade play. Now it's right on.

I find myself carrying it quite a bit, since I've found it very capable of utilitarian roles as well as being an LPU (Life Preservation Unit-TM)

. Very secure grip, and the linerlock gets easier to disengage with one hand with practice. I dig my index finger into the cutout and work it over. Not as speedy a closure as with my customized BM705, but there can be only so many perfect carry knives in my collection

BTW, it's very clever how Pat Crawford made the bronze washers stationary on each liner so that re-assembly's a breeze!

Pat just plain makes them heavy duty! I remember you having some problems with your Wortac Professor, glad they got worked out. As I said early I have had narry a problem with lockup on the last several Crawfords. All have locked up tight, with no play, and passed the spine whack. I have always liked the fact that Pat and Wes use such a large diameter bronze washer, gives more surface area. The way they pin it is unique among makers also.
The one I have has the solid black micarta slabs over some thick titanium frames. Steel is either ATS-34 or 154CM.

Anyone else out there have a Wortac?

Not yet, I don't. Will be limited to Timberline version, but will get one of those someday fairly soon, I hope.

Say guys, just ran a search thread on review forum. Nobody's done one yet on the Wortac -- any of hte 3 versions. Sure would like to see one fairly soon. Art, since you're soon to have the custom and the collaboration, I nominate/beg of you, to be the one to fulfill that "duty."

How about it. Or, one of the others of you?

I've had a couple of Wortacs. I really like the small version a lot. If everything works out, I hope to see Pat at the Blade show and hope to pick up a small Ti Wortac. The big is just too big for my hand. As far as the quality of Pats knives, I've never seen one that slipped the lock. they have always been bull strong. My only complaint has been that the grind lines on some of his knives are starting to stray and aren't even.

why aren't more people happy?

Bugs,
I will attempt to give a report/reveiw after I have had some time to compare the two. Of course I will give an initial observation when I get the Timberline version.
