Anyone have a guess as to what this knife would be worth. Comes with the original sheath and a custom sheath so you don't have to use the original. This is the Mod. 14 atack with s.s. blade and saw teeth on spine. thanks and keepem sharp

PS fella says it is in like new/original condition.

Stainless blades were stamped in that period. According to the Randall Timeline (from Blue Star Knives), the first stamp was “SS” (from around ’63 to ’64), second a low “S” (from around ’65 to ’66), and then a separate “S” (from late ’66 to ’72), and ever since that time the “S” has been integral with the logo.

In Randall Lore #1, however, Rhett mentions that Gary Randall told him, "…on the very first ones, we used two S's (SS), but that did not last long. We used the single low "S" method less than a year and then moved the "S" up by the Randall logo. Later on (about mid 1960's) we had stamps made with an "S" beside the logo as you know it today".”]

Which stamp does your blade have? A knife with low-S would probably go well in excess of $2000 on ebay (more if in great shape or good war provenance). I saw an ebay auction of a low-S #14 with filled hole in brown handle and rivet sheath (as-new except for some verdigris) that appeared to sell in the $10,000 area! Right now Perry is offering a tenite-handled #15 (non-stainless) for over $5000 (Spaceport Cutlery).

Well this is an S up on the logo. It has a micarta handle too. Sheath is a Randall sheath with the stone etc. I have a pic you can look at if you like I could email it to ya. Just email me and I will send a pic of it to tell me what you think. keepem sharp

Your best bet is to post a picture here on the forum. I'm not an expert, but there are a number of experienced Randall collectors who watch this forum and other forums that include Randall Made Knives. For instance, at the top of this page it says: "The Randall Knife Society Forum for answers to inquiries on all aspects of Randall Made Knives and Randall collecting in general. Visit their website at http://www.randallknifesociety.com"

Try to get a clear picture with a digital camera and post it; if you can't do that, get a friend to scan the photo you have, then post it here. Good luck!

Hey C-n-R thanks for the info. Link at the top of the page won't work. Says page is unavailable. But I do have apretty good pic the fella sent me. Just am not a prem. member so can't post it. Knife looks good to me from the pic. Does not appear to be used and the fella says it has an unused red colored stone. No rivets on the sheath and the Logo on the sheath is up at the belt loop area. I will find out about it, which is why the net is so cool. keepem sharp

Longbow, email me the pic to bluestarknives@sbcglobal.net and I'll give you my .02 cents worth of opinion, free of charge even...lol

Sounds like ya already want the knife though, and ya can't hardly go wrong with a Randall...

That's a good idea--Blue Star Knives and Sheldon & Edna Wickersham wrote the Randall Timeline and Reference Guide.

I just tried the http://www.randallknifesociety.com/ link, and it worked just fine. Don’t know what the issue is. Rhett Stidham has a broad knowledge of Randall knives, and has been very helpful to knife people who have questions about them.

True red stones are quite rare, only used in the early 1950’s, but reddish/orangish SALMON-colored stones (reddish/orangish) have been used since about 1973. For a short period these had no markings, but the vast majority are marked with “Fine India”. (These have a value of $2.00, and are available from Randall.)

Riveted sheaths were discontinued around late 1972. From the salmon-colored-stone date and the no-longer-riveted date, it appears that your sheath may be mid-1970’s or later.

Hey C-R just emailed a pic to M-P for his opinion. The fella says it is a reddish colored stone so without a pic to verify it is probably the later stone color you are talking about. I want the knife for sure just want to make sure I am doing both me and the fella with the knife justice on it. I mean if its worth a ton of dough I'll tell him. But if it isn't worth what I belive my stick bows are then I don't want to do the trade either. Although I have wanted a Randall since forever. I did try the link above again and it is working for me now. Don't know the deal on it but went to the site and looked around and then signed up. I can email you a pic too if you like. Nice to look at anyways. keepem sharp

This is part of my email to longbow...

'Based on the paracord type used, lack of rivets on the sheath, lack of punch marks for rivets on the sheath, 'Integral S' one piece blade stamp, and lined thong hole in the handle the used knife shown in the photo likely isn't older than 1973...but it could have been made as late as 1991...'
