Worth waiting for small Centofante in CPM 440V?

I just got through reading Sal's response to jon303's question about when the large Centofante would be available in CPM 440V. Sal said that, "It will probably be 90 - 120 days before they hit the marketplace."

If it's three to four months before the C50's are in the stores, and at last report Spyderco was still using up the thin ATS-34 stock for the C25's, then I guess it's a real question whether the C25's will be available in CPM 440V before Christmas.

Should I hold out until then? Or should I just go with the ATS-34 model? I really want a Centofante Jr., but I was hoping to get it in CPM 440V.

The C25 is not an ultra heavy duty knife. 440v holds an edge longer but depnding on what you plan to cut, I don't know if you will see that much difference. Unless you are collecting and want the 440v its own sake, I think it would be best to just pick up the current C25, the design, i believe is about the same.

Surely there must be some more opinions out there?

Having production knives in ATS-34, ATS-55, and 440V, I would not recommend holding out just to get the 440V. Bottom line is, the ATS-34 and -55 have, in my uses and IMO, stayed sharp for as long as the 440V. If you are a BIG fan of keenness in your blades, you might prefer the 440V. But, I would not hold out for the 440V just for edge holding. It just ain't much better.

dsvirsky,
Is the Centofante going to be your "every day no matter what I have to cut" knife?? Or a knife that will be a back-up to another blade?? ATS-34 is a good steel. CPM 440V is better. If the Centofante is going to be used every day to cut every thing, then wait for the CPM 440V. If the Centofante is going to be your "church knife" why wait?? Get one today.

Or you could always buy one of each.

Blades

I have the small Centofante C25 with an ATS-34 blade. It is my everyday carry. Although it is true that it is not a Heavy Duty knife, making it with a 'better' steel will not improve the design, strengthen it, or make it a 'better' knife. Mine sees relatively light duty opening envelopes, packages, and cutting fruit and string. The steel is fine for this use. The back-up secure lock makes this one of the most solid, dependable blades for hard use as well. It works great as a whittler and general purpose shop blade. I keep it razor sharp so when folks say they don't believe a knife can shave hair I can Show them what a Real knife can do. Don't wait for the 'better' steel. Get the knife now. You will not regret it.

Paracelsus

I couldn't wait, I have one coming next week form a fellow forum member. I was looking for another 3" folder and thanks to Paracelsus proclaiming the virtues of this knife in a few posts I jumped at the chance to pick it up. Thank you Paracelsus, you really sparked my interest in the C25. It seems like it will be the perfect knife for work in the office as long as I have a backup for the the shop floor.

I'm really interested in the secure lock engineering, especially since this is one of the very few Spydercos that I or a friend doesn't own. I haven't even check one out in person before.

Now if I can only keep my wife from snagging this one like the Wegner jr, or the Standard, or the Calypso jr......

I'm ordering one tonight.
