I sure would like to see one of these. I think a plain edged Spyderco Rescue (Jr.) would be an ideal utility knife- what do you think?

JK

The Rescue's a sheepsfoot. It doesn't have the point that a wharnecliffe does.

Sheeps foot blades are pretty good for utility use. In my experience the pointier Wharncliffe is even better.

Have you noticed that time flies like the wind, but fruit flies like bananas ?

schmackey & bteel are both corrrect.

FYI, one of the first knives Spyderco ever made was a plain edged sheepsfoot, called the Mariner. Hard to find nowadays.

For a true plain edge wharncliff, try the CRKT Wharncliffe Mirage.

RH is right, the CRKT Mirage is a great wharncliffe knife. As far as sheepfoot blades go, I thought that there was a plain edged Rescue. Anyone know?
Thanks,
Matt

Spyderco is now making a plain edge Rescue. It is listed on there site, but my dealer has yet been unable to get me one.

Oops, sorry about the incorrect terminology. Thanks for the replies, I'm sorry I wasn't able to follow up sooner. Can anyone offer any more information about a plain edged Spyderco Rescue, such as availability, specifically when/where? Thanks.

JK

Jedi Knife,
You were not incorrect. Warncliffes and sheepsfoot are technically the same. A sheepfoot is just "bastardized" or modern Wharncliffe. There are many, many variations of them that "modified", (sheepsfoot and others), emcompasses.

How about an Emerson P-SARK ?

If firearms cause crime, then matches cause arson.

Actually, I think the Wharncliffe is a modified (bastardized) modern sheepsfoot (the sheepsfoot design is older).
I saw a plainedge Rescue at Smokey Mountain Knives about two weeks ago. I still prefer my serrated Rescue but it was hard not to buy the plainedge one.
Good Luck,
Allen.

The P-Sarks blade seems to fall into a rounded claw. Much like the CRK & T Bear Claw Rescue model.

Plain edge Rescues should be shipping soon. Ah, but if it only had some subtle blade belly... When will Spyderco revive the C15- C19 Terzuolas?

According to Bernard Levine, the Wharncliffe was named for its designer, Lord Wharncliffe around 1820. I don't think that would qualify as a "bastardized modern sheepsfoot".
But I could be wrong.
