Sog SBR-80 Recon Bowie. This knife new in box and made first year of production. It is 002 on butt of knife. I am wondering what this knife would be worth. Is there anyone out there that would be interested in it. Pictures upon request per winonalatta@gmail.com

Alot of people get caught on that. After you buy Gold Membership I think you have
to manually change your status so that "Gold Member" appears under your name when you post.

Go to Settings, then to Permission Groups, and select your Gold membership level to update your user name display.

How would I find out what the green arrow is on the post and why I have not gotten any replies. There are many views. Is there some where I have to go to see any messages to me?

For SALE SOG KNIFE.

Great knife. Love it.

If you want to sell your knife post it in the exchange: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/672-The-Knife-Exchange

It is worth what someone is willing to pay. Use the search function here to see what others have paid for that knife here. You can use the ended auction function on ebay to see what others have paid for one there. Good luck!

Well you can never be "sure" what it's worth until it's sold. I think what you're really not sure about is
how much you should ask for it. In that case just put an arbitrary high number and invite "or best offers".
Or if you are so inclined you can have someone like Arizona Custom Knives sell it for you on consignment. They will probably get the highest price for you but take a big chunk as a fee.
You can scan the internet and come up with an asking price range in about 15-20 minutes.
Problem there is that "asking price" is often way off from an actual "sold price". But at least you can get an idea of what you should be asking.

I'm passing on a recent observation of two different open auctions for the SBR-80 recon Bowie. Both knives came with at least some of their original packaging and both were in excellent to near excellent condition with no apparent usage wear. Neither were claimed to have serial numbers anywhere and I'd assume them to be later versions of the knife in the OP.
In the two auctions each knife ended being won for an amount slightly over $200.

When this thread started I tried to trace this serial numbered Recon Bowie
without success. All I found was info on the numbered S1s.
There was apparently a "20th Anniversary Edition" Recon Bowie but they had a
blade engraving, and again, no reference to serial numbers.
Bit of a mystery.

Thank You KenHash and sac troop. This was a Seki Japan and the second one made by the company. They put serial numbers on the first few for special customers. They kept the first one.

earlll, that is a highly possible story. However with the lack of supporting information on the internet I have to question whether having that number will add any additional value to your knife. In other words, it may
be so rare that no one knows about it and therefore has no effect on demand. Hardcore knife collectors are a wary bunch and are very sensitive to anything they consider "unusual", and terms like "limited run" often throw up a red flag unless substantiation is available. I myself have had instances of having to chase down
information from the knife manufacturer to verify the authenticity of a "story" (and to ensure it was not counterfeit). May I suggest that unless there exists information about this numbering on your Recon Bowie n the internet, that you may want to contact SOG and get written verification. If successful this would resolve questions and likely increase the value of your knife.

I second what KenHash said, best thing you could do is contact SOG or perhaps even check to see if you can find anyone active on http://www.sogknivescollectors.com who may be able to shine a light onto this particular knife. I wouldn't sell it until I had put some time into getting as much info, could be one of the few knives out there on the market with a true story and history behind its creation. Or it could end it just being another seki japan sog knife, rare in their own regard and can safely sell it without any doubts weighing on you after

Ken Hash; Thank you , the sog recon bowie . I have taken your suggestion and sent a e-mail to the sog co. sent saturday, so I should hear this week . What I do know is this, when I got the knife I called sog and the man I spoke with abought the knife and the 002 on butt. He ask a few things abought the knife and said it was correct and could not be reproduced because of the process used , epoxied leather and brass guard ,butt and was not counterfeit as the process is diffcult to do . He also said that in 1986 Spencer Fraser started the company , with the sog bowie and in 1987 the sog recon bowie and Spencer did number on butt for special people and and 001 was for the co. He said he could not do a letter unless he saw it . I understand what he said and to this point have sent it in.KEN THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND INTEREST; I WOULD ALSO THANK BLACK LUNGS FOR HIS HELP EARLL
