Would it be okay?

To ask for opinions on one of the forums of what the current market value might be for several very good quality production knives and replica swords I've rediscovered while going through our storage closets? If so, which would be the most appropriate?

Over the years I've accumulated quite a bit of stuff, mostly firearms and related things but apparently a good many more knives and edged tools/weapons than I'd realized. I'm trying to put together a sort of inventory listing all of my firearms, edged weapons and similar items and an approximate value for each of them for my wife's protection should she choose to sell or otherwise dispose of them after my death.

Evaluating the firearms has been pretty easy. Between the standard reference books and browsing the various auction sites one can develop a fairly solid idea of what a particular item might bring.

The knives, swords, etc. are proving a good deal more difficult, as it seems that many of the items I have are either been out of production for several years, are somewhat esoteric, or both. So far, many hours of searching the internet have yielded very little in the way of results.

As someone new to your forum, I'd much prefer not to commit a breech of etiquette with my first posting.

It might be worth (no pun intended) to look into a subscription from worthpoint.com. Basically it trolls ebay and other auction sites and galleries and archives the results. If, for example, you want to estimate the value of a 1974 6 dot Case 63032 stockman with a slight patina but 100% full blades and no chips/cracks in the scales, they'll have plenty on record that you can compare to. Plus you can ask experts. They have a free 7 day trial (I don't know what the monthy fee is though).

you can ask for our opinions regarding value, you just have to be careful about how you post to be sure you are not trying to actually sell them outside the exchange and without the correct membership level.

and make no mistake, it is highly probable that members will make offers in the thread assuming they are desired items.

bernard levine, in his forum under "related" can give you help with identifying and pricing older and antique items.
