This MAY have been covered before but... as recently posted I picked up a Vantage Select in Dymondwood, did I say I LOVE THIS KNIFE!!! Anyway would love to hear from the company about this series of knives, are they a special run? I bought this one at Wal-Mart and have never seen ones like it anywhere else, what's up? Are they made only for Wally world to stock or .....???

I assume this is the dymondwood Vantage of which you speak:

If so, I believe it is only for Wally. There was a batch available on the bay when some of picked em up. I believe that is "oiled" dymondwood. I'll have to do a search on that to make sure. I think Jeff Hubbard may have chimed in to clarify, or Richard Matheny.

Ok, back from search. It is refered to as Blue Dymondwood by Jeff Hubbard and later in the thread he says:

You all have a 0345GYSWM-B, 345 with Charcoal Dymondwood, oiled.

You are right Kev, mine all came with the label intact and that's what they have on them. Mr. Hubbard stopped short of being specific about which retailer they went to if I remember right.

Seems to me that came out later that it would be wally. I think you had pegged the orange dot on the boxes. I'm sure its in another thread but I'm to lazy to search again, I'm all wore out from the 1st one:p;)

The dot and the fact that it has WM in the model number lead me to come to that conclusion but I don't think it was ever verified. It's just speculation on my part because the 110's I have from Walmart are marked "0110BRSWM-B and have the orange dot (the only boxes I have with that).

I could be wrong, I'm forever thinking I read something here and spout it out without checking:o Rarely works out for me, but thats my M.O. :D

Now youre gonna make me look for it:mad::)

I'll save you the trouble Kev.:D

Here's his last post about it.

This version is for a major retailer, and will not be a limited run."

Thanks Dave:thumbup: I still thought there was an "ah ha" moment where the orange dot and the retailer wally came together, I dont know, mighta had a couple Straubs in me.:D

Thanks guys, looks like it's a regular build for Wal-Mart, quite nice actually. I think that if they made this an option for everyone including on their website they just might sell a ton of them. It's a beautiful knife and keeping the 420HC holds the price down. I think this will become my off duty regular EDC piece, love it. As a Federal inspector I prefer to carry my SOG Aegis, a bit bigger and more "tactical" in role but when not on the job The Buck is perfection. My off work setup is always a 9mm IWB, an ESEE 4 and now I'll swap out the Aegis for the Buck as my smaller EDC knife, nice. As usual Buck has managed to produce a high quality knife for a low cost.

I'm with you on that. I never bought the Select because of the plastic handle. I did end up with one of the little ones because it came in a package deal and that confirmed my dislike for that version. The Dymondwood version of the Select though is very nice and I think they would sell lots of them if the were more available. My local Walmart doesn't carry them or the new Paperstone 186 either, so where would I be able to get one except on eBay??? :grumpy:

After thought: The funny thing is, I love the Bucklite Max and it has the same kind of plastic handle as the regular Vantage Select. Go figure. It must be because there aren't any Bucklite Max's with the Dymondwood handles so I never got used to one of them first.
