Can anyone comment on the quality of the Idun from Fallkniven? Specifically, the grind, the fit of the guard and the handle shape? I know it is convex ground, but is it relatively thin or thick near the edge? I currently have a trail guide and a wood craft, even though they are both convex, the edge profile is very different; the Blackjack Trailguide, being significantly thinner near the edge.

Are there any visible gaps between the blade and the guard or is the fit nearly flawless (invisible)? I ask because on most production knives, you will usually see some imperfections, but the cost of this knife, while not in custom territory, is getting close.

Thanks for your input.

Doesn't anyone have or use the Fallkniven NL5 or others in the Northern Lights Series?

Hello i own a fall idun and i must say it is a good quality knive the handle is made of leather and gives a slippery feeling but i think if you use it a whyle that is getting better (less slippery) the knive is very sharp out of the box and the sheat that is protecting the knive is good. The knive is in the sheat and if you click it in it sits tight. Near the edge it is getting thinner but not to thin in my opinion. It is a smooth knive and handles perfect. The sheat is a little thick and feels big.

It's a good knife, no doubt about that. But truth be told, if you're very precise about fit and finish, then it must be said the fit and finish on NL models does vary towards the wrong side of greatness occasionally. The grind lines can be a bit uneven, as with regular Fällkniven models, and the lamination lines in particular may not be exactly straight, but typically, you won't find any easily noticed issues. Then again, this is typical of all Scandinavian knives. Even the most expensive of customs may have some natural "imperfections", especially with handles made of natural materials. If it doesn't affect the performance of the knife, why care too much?
