I have what I believe is a first contract S&K Model 1840 Cavalry sword, I am just wanting to be concrete on what it is I have here. Have had some trouble finding good sources to confirm or deny what I got here. If my photos are not good enough or more are needed to help identify the sword please let me know, Thank you.

I'm not doubting you without looking in books but maybe you can share why you think it is? Particularly the crown stamp (which wouldn't be there?)

Some of the Italian states retained French styles and this would fit up to and along with their 1860. Let me circulate a couple of your shots.

Thank your for the help Horseclover, I had also found these posts and are part of what was making me think that this is a first contract US sword.
Also here are a few other examples of some I had found to be very similar.

I had also found an old forum post it looks like you made talking about the S&K contracts:
I was hoping to find out where you might have gotten this info but I do know it was almost a decade ago.

I have also seen people reference Thillmann’s book Civil War Cavalry Artillery Sabers.
Believe it was page 374 or 375 I saw referenced, but I do not have the book to check and it does seem to be a steep cost. Was kind of hoping someone here might happen to have that book in their collections and wouldn't mind giving it a look.
I would like to see if the pages are in reference to a particular sword or that of the general S&K swords in the US.

Well, the numbers come out of Hickox. I am a forever student and even recently here was made aware of much I don't know.

Images and share for educational purposes only.

My interests are earlier history but they overlap the decades up to the ACW.

As you can see, I am scatterbrained at times. I was being too lazy to read stuff again. Late night musings.

Cheers
