Would like opinions on Kifaru packs

From people that actually own and use them. I have a body that doesn't fit the average pack profile. Kelty and some of the REI packs come the closest, but still lack the "perfect" factor. I know that Kifaru makes some expensive packs, but I don't have a problem paying for something that is worth it. I am within easy driving distance of them as well, so I could probably go to them and get measured up for a pack personally. Thanks in advance.

They are great packs, solid tough workhorses, not ultralight but very well thought out and bombproof. Kifaru is my #1 gearnutty obsession!! I've used the standard back stay profile without adjustment and they work great for me, they come in more flat and more curved, but more importantly can be user/factory adjusted if you are 'out of spec'. As you are near by I would just go and check them out! give them a call first and I'm sure they'll be able to sort you out there and then; even if you have to wait for a pack to be made, I'll bet they have spare stays they can fit to you on your visit?

Here is a pic of one of my scout's stays, its my EDC so I had it handy.

The bigger the pack the better the fit and adjust-ability, My EMR is a monster but is just soooo comfortable, even under a heavy load its my legs that give way before pack discomfort appears!

Doug, what is the colour of your pack? olive drab or coyote?

ok, I really dig that coyote brown now....has that old-world turn of the century dusty feel...that will fit in most places...except the rainforest, haha.

what does Kifaru mean when they ask for your inseam measurement?

anyone got the Desert Tiger Stripe? I like that colour too....looks like the kind of camo that has a "Rommel" feel...

I have a scout and I love it. Fantastic pack, excellent quality. One of the best. Here's a pick of it under my scout rifle.

Thanks for the information guys...I just about have myself talked into a marauder or possible the smaller of their two large packs.

bigcustom if you're unsure on which is the best pack for you, pop a question on the kifaru message board with an outline of what you want it for. I've got the E&E, scout, express, marauder, pointman and an EMR! (I know - I'm addicted!). The ones I use most are the scout (EDC) and the EMR (usually as the hauler for moving heavy stuff), my fave pack (for no particular reason) is the pointman.

Spyken - the inseam(inside leg - same as when you're buying trousers) measure along with your height is an easy way of approximating back length, they then dial in the pack adjustment to fit you, IIRC.
