Hi I am new to this site abd thought you all could help me ID my khuk. I found it at a gun shop. It was in a box of stuff that was to be gotten rid of. It is 17" with a wood handle. The blade says India with a arrow above it.The handle has 2 larger size rivits in it. The blade has blood groves down both side between thee bend and the handle. The blade style is very similar to the Dhankuta from HI. Also it has a full tang. The blade is 12" long and 1/4" thick. It has both tools in the sheath but the sheath is missing the brass part. I have been using this knife as a utility blade and to clear shooting lanes from my tree stand during hunting season. The blade seems to hold an edge real well so I dont think that it was one of the wall hanger types. The finish of the was plain and had stains in it so I cold blued it just to give it a uniform appearance. Thanks for the help.

If you could post a clear photo of the khuk in question, I'm sure it can be I.D.'s by one of the forumites...

Dan :)

Only Gold subscribers can post pics, but if you'll email them to me I'll post them for you.

In this forum we always seem to use overall length
to measure our khuks,

so as you say the blade length is 12"
I'm guessing the overall length OAL~17-18 inches

Sounds like a military issue piece
if the marks are original

From the HI website you can look at pages of military issue khuks
in the FAQ section
you'll likely find one similar to your's there.

Let us know

hard to tell w/o pics... could be a nice M43, or could be one of those $19.95 cheapies you see all over ebay...

There is no military kukri that has the word INDIA in conjunction with the British Broad Arrow. If it is holding up for yard work you should keep using it for that. It has no value as a military collectible.

Oops, Mr. Powell is right. If it says India and is built like that it sounds like a cheapie. Wouldn't be an M43. I Don't know what I was thinking.

One of those was my very first khuk about 20 years ago. I got it from Brigade Quartermaster.

I very much like your khuk.

thats the $19 cheapie... it comes with a worthless chakma and karda...

Doesn't look like the Windlass designs I've seen,
or the one I have,
but.......

Even if it is one;
If the edge stays sharp enough,
then you have a user for you.

I have one of the windlass khuks & it has it's place
when you don't need the heavy-duty dependability
of an HI.
It's my mud blade;
for when I want a khuk,
but don't -need- to get a nicer blade banged around.

It's also better than 99% of the lion-head-pommel khuks.

If you eventually get an HI khuk,
you'll discover a world of difference.

search hi forum for
differential
or
hamon
to learn about gentle acid etching to reveal
hardening zones on better made blades.
My Windlass/Atlanta Cutlery blade is edge hardened btw.

If it holds an edge, works for you, didn't cost much, and clears the shooting lane for your arrows.... you did well.

It is not an investment, but a tool.

Welcome to the Cantina. Hang around and enjoy the crowd.

they certainly arent pretty, but they do get the job done...

Hello Jailguard,

Your first kuk appars to be a replica of the WWII Issue K45 model, glad you got your first kuk, worth a look at Bill 's FAQ.

Thanks for all the help guys. I have been a member of the FAL files for a while and it appears I have found another bunch of good guys with lots of info to hang around with. I plan on eventualy getting a HI. Probably a wwII or a BAS.

Yep, not badmouthing the files, as I love it over there, but we've got one of, if not the best group of people on the Internet here.

And if yo'ure looking for a Dumping Brass type forum, it's called Whine and Cheese and it's in another section. :) Cept there are lots of posts there that aren't allowed on the Files. I know, cuz I crossposted one from here to the files and got in trouble. :D
