A week or so ago I posted up some fabric for trade that could be used to make some nice laminates. Delbert messaged me and said he was interested, offering up some damascus in trade. Well, the trade exploded from there on both ends...what started as a small box of fabric on my end, ballooned into this huge stack of fabric + another box not pictured:

This is towered over one of my dining room chairs. The top bundle, I estimate at 40-50' long. It's currently boxed into 4 large boxes and I'm anxious to see what the total weight is going to be...it's a HUGE amount of material.

Delbert sent me an email with this picture in it for his portion of the trade:

In this are 4 bars of his damascus, 2 finished "kit" blades that he made (the hidden tang just needs polishing and etching), and the top piece...is a piece of his Meteorite Damascus that he is going to forge into a blade for me to finish out with my own handle material. Not pictured is some sweet handle material he's also opted to throw in.

I am like a kid at Christmas with this trade and absolutely ecstatic over that meteorite damascus! Definitely going to be an heirloom piece with that steel.

Just thought I would share this, I can't wait to get it all.

Thank you again Delbert, I hope you and your daughters can make use of all this material. My mom would have been happy to know that it's going to be used and not thrown away.

I don't get it???
You are going to trade enough fine quality cloth to sew shitrts for an entire village, for a few bars of Pakistani damascus that Del has been trying to get rid of for years????

Seriously, Del will treat you good, and getting rid of things you can't use for things you can is a Win-Win every time.

Dang Dude,
Del's Damascus is some of the best looking damascus out there, Post some WIPs of the knives!

lol, he is treating me well for sure. I told him I have no money in this fabric as it was my mom's...and that whatever you think it is worth to you will be just fine with me. Apparently, it's worth a lot :).

I know right?! I did some searching for knives using his damascus and checked out knives on his page...I am honored to receive this lot and I will strive to turn these pieces into the best knives I am able to create.

Dude what a great trade! Ya scored. But now a great responsibility. Very cool! I love trading. Scored some Mammoth Ivory in the tusk form, 3 batches of ironwood in the log form and an Angus crossbred cow this past year. I think ya might of done better. Oops forgot partial payment on a new horse for the wife too. Sill ya might have done better.

Thanks for the news! In our world today, it's ALWAYS uplifting to share in the joy of friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a fantastic trade!

I'm also wondering how he colors his damascus!

So looking forward to seeing your knives from these!

I have no idea about the colors, I just assumed it was layout dye or something like that. I definitely have some responsibility ahead of me to make Delbert proud of his trade.

I shipped the lot today, total weight of just over 83 pounds!

I was just perusing Del's website, and by meteorite he doesn't mean just pattern, he means ACTUAL metallic meteorite.. which I find absolutely fascinating, and I want to know more! lol. The damascus is HEAT colored to show the pattern, if it's like the other stuff on his website.. I didn't know that's how it was done. Even reading his site was educational! :) He certainly makes some pretty damascus.

WOW! THat is a great deal. I'm looking forward to seeing what Dell has in mind for the cloth.

I know most of you know me as a damascus maker, and a knifemaker, but the truth is I really like to make things with my hands.
I make clothing, baskets, and some very complex birchbark containers. One of my favorite things to sew is polarfleece turtlenecks, I made the first one because I wanted one and couldn't find one for sale. I am looking forward to making some clothing for the kids and myself.
I also have 4 daughters and after talking initially talking with Craig, I got the idea to give my daughters the opportunity to do some sewing.
Almost at the end of the trade he told me about the flowery canvas at the top of the stack, he said he was planning to take it to the dump, because there had been no interest in it. I said Hey send that along as well, I havn't made them in awhile, but some of the canvas will go for seating(and maybe pillows) for some deck chairs and stools.
Craig was a pleasure to deal with and I felt like i got a really good deal, and so did Craig.

Thank you sir! Delbert, too, has been nothing but awesome through this trade. And once again, I hope I am able to do you proud with the blades and making my own knives at some point soon!

We have 2 sewing machines in our house, one of them is an older unit of my mom's that I would love to get into working condition. My fiance is pretty crafty too, she makes purses and handbags. I'm hoping between the 2 of us, our skills can be handed down to our baby girl...who get's to come home from the NICU next week!!! :)
