Would sanding off the black coating on liners affect the tolerances?

I want to remove the black coating on a pair of liners for a Benchmade crooked river. I believe the liners are stainless steel, not sure what or how thick the coating is.

I would like to know if I sanded or grinded the black coating off, would it compromise the tolerances of the knife and the action?

If it is a black oxide coating, it is only a few microns thick. Why do you want to remove it?

Just set a piece of 400 to 800 grit paper on a surface plate or other dead flat surface and gently wet sand the liners onit. It should leave a plain metal satin finish without changing the tolerances.
