Hey everyone!
Recently I signed my dad up for his paypal CC and know they gave me reward points! My dad bought some licensing for his tow trucks that gave a ton of reward points because of the cost. So now I can get a $100 paypal giftcard and a 25$ gift card!
Now I'm a blade sharpness nut my current sharpening system is an old lansky and a really nice strop I made by hand (makes my knives laser sharp!) I have only gotton a hair whittling edge once on an old SAK electrician (well all of my knives can cut hair get really small curls, but they just won't bite into it and slip it in half!) By hair whittling I mean holding it in my hand just hitting the blade against it and getting it to slip in half.
I think my problem is with my lansky deluxe diamond sharpener it has EC C M F all oil diamond stones.
What I was thinking is to switching over to the DMT aligner kit if anyone could tell me which was finer The lansky fine or the DMT fine. What I was thinking was just buying the dmt clamp with a EEF clamp stone if my lansky's fine is fine enough :P. So should I do that or chunk out $58 for the whole kit and an EEF. I was hoping that my fine will do and all I can do is get an EEF, and maybe a spydie tenacious or native.
EDIT: only $100 to spend! Best to keep under $60 though!

Wow! You know a whole lot more about sharpening than I do so I won't pretend to offer you advice in that regards. Sounds like you are doing a pretty good job with what you have. If it were me I wouldn't spend all my money on a new sharpening system when the old one seems to be working so well. Get yourself the Tenacious or Native.

DMT and Lansky fines are both listed at 600 grit; DMT extra-fine is 1200 while Lansky is 1000; DMT extra EXTRA fine is 8000 grit.

DMT's diafold, extra-fine and extra-extra fine, may do the trick. It won't fit the Lansky clamp obviously. The diafold costs 31 bucks at Knifecenter; a magna-guide with all four grits from coarse to xx-fine costs $59.
