Would this be a variant?

Let's just say, hypothetically;), that I wanted to get a NO (or maybe a SH). Having owned one of the early ones, before, I already know what I like/dislike about the knife, and what changes I would want on "my" knife.
A symmetrical convex edge would be nice. So would a double cut finish, though I'm not too picky about that one. The handles are the only real issue for me.
I think the newer Es had the tang ground flush with the spine, which would be better, but...
Say I wanted to order a NO with the handles downsized a little...more in line with what the variants I handled at Blade Show were like-perfect fit in my hand.
Would this be doable by contacting the shop, or would I have to get with Marc?
I can't afford a full-blown variant, so I'm very curious about whether I can do this, and what it would cost me.

I decided to get in on that passaround for the CRK "Green Beret" knife, and it would be cool to have some fresh INFI in a relatively similar knife to compare it to in use (probably be a few months before it's my turn, if enough people sign up to actually make it happen). My Basic 4, 9, and GM probably aren't good choices for comparison, and I've been missing my NO, so all the excuses for a new one are in place:D
Just need to find out what I can and can't do/afford.
Thanks.

I think Marc (marc@bussecombat.com) would be your best sounding board. Not sure where "tweaks" cross into variant land...

If you altered the handle, I would probably consider it a variant. I'm not sure how much it would cost....just give Jerry a call :D

NO-- Unless you want the tang cut down too.
just ask them to use 1/4" macarta instead of 3/8".

It doesn't sound like much, but it gives a whole new feel to the knife.:D

That's what I've heard anyway...;)

It sounds like you want to "Fly" the handle. In that case I would think that this would be a variant. I would think that while your at it you might want to do something with the rest of the knife like put a sharpened "False Edge" on it or a "Band Cutter".

Thanks guys.
Yeah, I guess a "Fly" handle is kind of what I want.
I don't want anything that will interfere with using a baton, though, and really like the blade as-is. Just wasn't sure if the slimmed down handle made it a variant-always equated that with extra grinds on the blade. Anybody with time, patience, and a dremel tool can slim down the handle. Making changes to the blade is well beyond my scope, however, and I figured that's where the extra work and cost of variants came into play.

Chuck, I think you're on to something, there. Slimmer scales, and having the tang ground flush would probably take care of the "problem" with the least hassle for all concerned. I will look into that, thanks:)
I will probably call the shop Monday, since it's 5pm Eastern time, now, and I don't want to cut in on anybody's weekend.

Yeah, wait 'til 3 in the morning when Jerry is there...

He keeps the strangest dang hours....

Hmmm...3am. I'm usually up at 3am. I'll give it a try. Somebody send me Jerry's home # in case he's not at the shop.
Like I said, I want this to happen "with the least hassle to all concerned":p
No need to thank me, Jerry. It's for your own convenience;)

or maybe I'll just wait until Monday...
