This is an image of a knife I am considering buying. Before purchasing, would it be legal to open OR concealed carry this knife in Texas. I am unsure about the whole "sawteeth" thing on the back of the knife. I am contacting the seller to ensure that the back of the knife is not bladed, as that would give it the name of a "bowie knife," no?

Thanks,

Well, two issues to address here:

1) Texas law doesn't differentiate between open and concealed carry, the legalities are the same (5.5" single edged) regardless of whether its in a sheath on your belt on tucked in your underwear.

2) That knife looks (to my eye) uncomfortably close to what I would consider double edged, and thus illegal to carry. The two different types of serration like features, and the fact that they run the whole length of the blade, make it a knife I would not be willing to carry. Carrying an illegal knife is considered Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (UCW) and carries up to a year in jail and a $4K fine, that's a pretty steep risk to take.

I looked a little closer at pics I could find elsewhere and based on THOSE pics, including a close-up of the blade, the tip of the blade in front of the forward serrations appears to be sharpened, which is all it would need to be classified "double-edge". Additionally, the forward serrations are severe enough that they would also cause the knife to be considered double-edged.

4 different ads, 4 different reported lengths for the same model - 1 at 4.5", 1 at 4.75", 1 at 4.825" and 1 at 5". Quality control must really suck at this Chinese factory. All lengths would be legal, but regardless, the blade edges make it "illegal" to carry in any manner in public in Texas.
