Would you able to remove rust on my SRT?

You'll remember I talked you back on Blade Show, back at the first of June.

I'd bought that SRT, back here in the Blade Forums Exchange.., back about 4 years back..., and I had my stroke, 1 2/3 years back.., and my SRT had some rust. But the knife was very great.., the little Talonite knife, within the SRT, has sharpened by Keith Kilby (extremely sharp!).., and had showed that SRT back at Trace Rinaldi..., right before I'd showed that at your table, in Blade Show.

Anyway...., have you been able to fix the rust, so I can bet the knife back???

I had trying some Simichrome polish..., but the blade wasn't looking quite "even" <s>. That's why Simonich had looked at my knife, and said he would fix it. I usually us the TUF-CLOTH, which seems to avoid most of my rust..., but my stroke had slowed me down, for 2-3 months <g>.

Kirk, sorry I havent been very good at comms lately. I dug out the knife and was able to grind most of the pit out and refinsh it. Ill send it back this week. Sorry for the LONG delay.

It sounds VERY good, with your help of the rust I'd screwed up (well..., I'll have to throw the "screwing STROKE" <g>.)

Thank you..., I'm sounding the knife will get to me soon.

Kirk, dumb question, are you a collector or a user??? If this is part of a collection, you have evry right to worry. If you're a user, relax!! the uneveness and dis-coloring adds history and character. You should see the dis-coloring on my SRT Kukri and A2 Kanji!!;)

And I try to keep my knives well maintained!!!;)

"a collector or a user???" <g>

Well..., I've got both. Probably half of my knives are just those that I kind of TOUCH and SEE the knives..., until I don't touch and see as much as I used to. The Mad Dog ATAK that I sold (back in Nov., I think) was that issue. Well..., that, and 'cause I have less money than I should, after that stroke. And selling some knives can buy newer ones.

I had bought that SRT in BladeForums, from one of our users, 3-4 years back. He told me he'd used a bit.., but it looked extremely good, and I'd never cut or sharpened from me. So, yeah, it hurts a bit to see the rust. Hopefully, Rob's help with that will bring that closer toward the "collection" look <g>.

Stupid question,,,,,is the finish satin or beadblasted???If its satin, the eraser idea should work just fine(make sure you use the eraser"with the grain"). If it's bead blasted, it may have to go back. Only Rob could answer that!!

"satin or beadblasted??? If it's bead blasted, it may have to go back"

It is "beadblasted" "I guess what it calls". And, yeah..., that's why it didn't look right, when I'd tried to removing the rust. Simonich looked at my SRT back on 6/1/02, and said he would fix it. Hopefully, I'll have see it nice and pretty, this week <s>.

Rob,

How did the rust come off the SRT..., do you know. I'm not sure how rust can be taken off of the steel. I know you said you'd ship the SRT a week and a half back, but I wasn't sure if the rust problems might have slowed fixing and shipping it.

Thank you,

Kirk Duckworth

I emailed my address and phone. I appreciate that you're getting the SRT back to me.

I hope that the Private option (which I didn't know about this) got to you. If not.., just give a another think here, and I WILL get my address stuff to you.
