Would you buy a non-Waved Emerson?

If you would, why? Other than just getting a good deal on one, is there any reason you would perfer the non-Wave to the Waved Emersons?

From what I have seen, the Wave doesn't distract from the looks or handling at all on Emersons so why not have it?

On Spydercos the Wave is huge and ugly and I can see why someone would choose not to have it on their knife but the Emerson Wave just looks right so I am curious if there is anyone that prefers the non-Wave for some reason. Is it like the 4 out of 5 dentist thing where someone always has to be different or is there a real reason for not having the Wave?

yes, i have an older 7 that is unwaved. i like it because the clip is reversable for tip down carry.

Hi, there´s an earlier thread "wave haters" that could perhaps fill you in.
I,d certainly prefer all emersons to have a "non wave" option. The reasons being mainly to have control over opening and not having the knife catching in my pocket and opening before I like it to. For me ultra rapid deployment is not a priority, not getting bitten is thou and I don´t like to think "careful now" every time I go for the knife. So I´m not hooked on the hook. BTW I have several waved and non waved EKI:s. Hope this helps you out.

I love the wave and would not have it any other way. I can still take it out with out it opening and not put too much thought into it. BUT every one is different, I could possibly need a quick deploying knife, but for just every day carry its probley not a feature a person needs. As for me my CQC-7BW goes with me weather i am deployed or just going to the movies. Enjoy J

my 2 customs arent waved, CQC6 & '8, they work just fine too. also used to edc a ECA P-tac, same deal.

i do like the wave though and see no cons at all to having a waved knife, my edc since x-mas has been my '12.

I have a custom CQC-8 which is waved, and though i like it a lot, but i do feel that it looks nicer withOUT the wave...kinda cleaner lines..well, just my 2 cents...

Cheers,
Nick

Also discussed here. ;)

I haven't ruled out more Emersons (I haven't tried them all yet :D ), but for me the wave is more of a nuisance for EDC than an asset. If I can't get a non-waved knife, then my concern is whether or not I, as the end user, can grind off the wave myself, and still have warranty repair honored by EKI for problems not associated with the modification.

If warranty is honored despite user mods unrelated to the repair/refurbish claim, then I would still consider more Emersons, even if they were waved (and lacked a finger choil. :) )

I just haven't bothered to ask them yet.

I bought an Emerson without a wave (Mini-CQC 7A) because they are not made WITH a wave...I will probably end up with a Mini-CQC 7B with a wave one of these days...

It was hard enough even FINDING a Mini-CQC 7A because they are not currently being made.

Congrats! I´ve been searching for 7A:s for some time. Any hints to where one can be found?

I've bought Waved Emerson knives and removed the Wave so yes. The M Wave is the only one other than the Commander and maybe a few others that is worth keeping in my opinion. Most of the others I've tried and especially the 14 may as well not even come that way.

I find the Wave to be a pain in the pocket. The only knife I find it useful on is my P-SARK. I'm trying to figure out the best way to grind it off my new Mini-Com.

BTW- Just bought a CQC-7A SF on the big auction for $160. This one is for my buddy who won't stop drooling over mine. They still have a 7A BTS up for bids, I believe.

I often use kitchen-knife grip and index-on-spine grip (i.e. "rescue knife" grip) for my general precision cutting.

While the Wave isn't completely in the way, because you can bend your index finger around it, it is actually much more comfortable to use one without it.

Just my $0.02.

I just don't like waved knives. I tried both Emerson and Tops waved knives at a local San Francisco show and was not impressed. I've got a '99 CQC7 and have no problem whatever getting the thing out of my pocket. And quickly too. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but that's my opinion. I think it would be a serious mistake to have waved-only EKI knives available and hope that never happens. :thumbdn:

I posted to a couple of different knife forums and was contacted a couple of months later by someone who had one available. I've only seen one other Mini CQC7A that someone had put up for auction.

The one that I got had been well used and currently it's back at Emerson for refurbishing/sharpening...

Good luck in your search.

The Wave screws up your pants.

It's also difficult to get out of your pocket while in a seated position.

I thought it was kind of annoying to have the wave feature. Actually, I like it later on. It depends on what you will do with the knife. For my EDC, I have karambit and la griffe. La griffe is my utility knife, i use it every time but not karambit, I only use it when I need for self defense; with wave the discharge is very quick and efficient (so far).

I didn't like the wave at first. For the reason of opening the knife in public and everybody turn and look when they hear a snap of the liner lock. It's on my super 7cqc

I'm about to order a cqc-7 without wave. I wish they would make the mini cqc-7 without wave for my wife.

Don't get me wrong. I love my emerson knives. They are the only ones I will be buying from now on.
