Would you buy a short blade with a long handle?

I sure would. Thinking Fallkniven U-2 blade in a handle about an inch or more longer. Good ergos, usable size, legal everywhere, and for SD it would still have "reach."

I think that would be a terrific seller.

Yeap , EKI Mini CQC7 :D I also modded an AG Russell Italian made 'tactical gents' folder by cutting the blade to just under 3 inches.

I love Fallkniven but IMO that knife is a little pricey for what it is , unless that blade steel is some sort of miracle.

Yup, only I'd go a step further, the cqc-14 "stubby" is on my want to buy list, sub 3' blade, full sized handle. IMO small blades are more handy for most tasks with make them more controllable, and large handles are just always good for both grip and control. Its a Win Win.

I have a custom that has a handle longer than the blade, It's in 154CM and quite a nice little knife.

Well, as an example, I have an AG Russell Woodswalker, and if the handle was shorter than the blade I wouldn't be able to use it.

I've bought a couple of them.

A lot of the neck knives have longer handles than the blade. As mention, they would be rather hard to use with a really short handle.

I don't mind if the handle is about an inch or so longer, but beyond that it's just added bulk. The major benefit of carrying a smaller knife is how well it rides in the pocket, especially considering that's where it is most of the time. If it's going to take up more space, it might as well have a longer blade to make it worth the extra bulk.

I think my Spyderco Phoenix and Delica 4 would qualify.

The U-2 isn't a self-defense knife, and shouldn't be. A knife doesn't need the "tactical" tag to make it a useful, real knife.

Absolutely, my pet peeve is when most manufacturers make folder handles only big enough to house the blade. Why not make it big enough to fit in ones hand?

One of my most recent purchases was a Roselli UHC bear claw.

Blade length is 2.25 inches, handle is 4 inches. I have a lot of love for it.

Sure. My Swamp Rat HRLM and Spyderco Para 2 are a couple of favorites.

Sure, as long as as the blade to handle ratio does not exceed 1:1.25. Would prefer the blade is longer than 3.5", and the extra purchase on the end just gives it more reach. If you're thinking short- less than 2"; would actually favor economy of space. However, a longer handle could make for some interesting designs.

Nope, I'm actually in the other boat. I don't like short blades and the problem, I find, with folders is that when the blade is longer, the handle has to be longer. This is one reason I prefer fixed blades - I can have a nice size blade without a long handle :-)

In general, No. I prefer folders with blade to handle ratio over 70%. But there are several exclusions like Dodos and Lava.

The reason I selected the U-2 is the general usage handiness of the blade shape and flatter grind than most. Makes is an ideal whittler or slicer and the handle idea is just for superb control. ANY blade material within reason would be good. I like the slimmer grinds than the Emerson.

Yep, not to mention it doesn't look proportional. I like it when the handle is longer than the blade, the perfect example of a good proportion is the spyderco para 2; not drastically shorter than the handle, but definitely noticeable.

When I had a custom done. He originally was going to use a 4 inch handle I think it was for a 4.6 inch blade but he asked how I wanted it so I asked him to extend it to 4.75 inches of handle since my grip was right at 4. A extended handle gives me more comfort I think, when I am really gripping the blade my hand flattens out a little from a tight grip.
